Saint Martin (island)
Saint Martin is an island in Leeward Islands of the Lesser Antilles in the northeastern Caribbean, approximately east of Puerto Rico. The island is divided roughly 60:40 between the France, French Republic () and the Kingdom of the Netherlands (), but the Dutch part is more populated than the French. Divided since 1648, the northern French part comprises the Collectivity of Saint Martin and is an overseas collectivity of the French Republic. The southern Dutch part comprises Sint Maarten and is one of Kingdom of the Netherlands#Constituent countries, four constituent countries that form the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The governor of Sint Maarten is the representative on Sint Maarten of the Dutch head of state (King Willem-Alexander). The governor's duties are twofold: he represents and guards the general interests of the kingdom and is head of the government of Sint Maarten. The Caribbean guilder (code: XCG; abbreviation: Cg; ; ) is a currency of Curaçao and Sint Maarten, two constituent countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It is divided into 100 cents (). Introduced on 31 March 2025, it co-circulates alongside its predecessor, the Netherlands Antillean guilder (ANG), which will cease to be legal tender on 1 July 2025. In November 2020, it was announced that the Caribbean guilder would come into circulation the following year, but it was delayed several times.
