Union Of European Democrats
The Union of European Democrats ( pl, Unia Europejskich Demokratów, UED) is a liberal political party in Poland. It is led by Elżbieta BiÅ„czycka. It was founded as a merger of Democratic Party – demokraci.pl and "European Democrats" in November 2016. It joined the parliamentary group of the Polish People's Party in 2018, and later participated in upcoming elections under the European Coalition and Polish Coalition. Ideologically, it supports principles of social liberalism and advocates for a more federal European Union. Civic Platform ( pl, Platforma Obywatelska, PO)The party is officially the Civic Platform of the Republic of Poland (''Platforma Obywatelska Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej''). is a political party in Poland. It is currently led by Donald Tusk. It was formed in 2001 by splinter factions from the Solidarity Electoral Action and Freedom Union, and it later placed second in the 2001 parliamentary election. It served in the parliamentary opposition until 2007, when it overtook Law and Justice, won 209 seats and Tusk was elected as prime minister. 2019 European Parliament Election In Poland
On Sunday 26 May 2019, a vote was held to elect the Polish delegation to the European Parliament. Polish voters elected 52 MEPs, compared to 51 in the 2014 election. The increased number of MEPs is a result of the 2018 reapportionment of seats in the European Parliament. Following the United Kingdom's announcement, that it will participate in elections to the European Parliament on May 23, Poland will continue to be represented by 51 MEPs. The 52nd MEP will take up their mandate immediately after the UK leaves the European Union. Following the announcement of the election results, the National Electoral Commission indicated Dominik Tarczyński from Lesser Poland and Świętokrzyskie will take up the 52nd seat. 2018 Polish Local Elections
The 2018 Polish local elections were held on October 21 for all 16 provincial (voivodeship, ''województwo'') assemblies, 380 county (''powiat'') councils, and 2477 commune (''gmina'') councils. There were also direct elections for commune heads (mayors and city presidents), with a second, run-off round for these offices on November 4. Modern (political Party)
Modern ( pl, Nowoczesna, styled as ".Nowoczesna") is a centrist political party in Poland. It is currently led by Adam Szłapka. It was formed in 2015 as "ModernPL" although due to controversy it had to change the name to ".Modern" later that year. Its first president Ryszard Petru served until 2017, when he was succeeded by Katarzyna Lubnauer. It first gained seats in the 2015 parliamentary election, and in 2018 it joined the Civic Coalition to participate together in the local elections. Szłapka was elected as president in 2019. Modern is a member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, and it is orientated towards the principles of liberalism, and classical liberalism. Jacek Protasiewicz
Jacek Protasiewicz (born 5 June 1967 in Brzeg) is a Polish politician. Graduated from Wroclaw University where in the 80s of 20th century was a leader of anti communist student organization (NZS). In 1995 was an international fellow at the Kettering Foundation based in Dayton, Ohio. He was a local leader of a liberal party (KL-D) in 1994 and than the Union of Freedom - the party led by a first non-communist Prime Minister of Poland. In 2001 he was a cofounder and a local leader of Civic Platform - a party led by Donald Tusk - later Prime Minister of Poland and Head of the European Council. Michał Kamiński
Michał Tomasz Kamiński (born 28 March 1972) is a Polish politician and a member of the Senate with the Union of European Democrats. He was chairman of the European Conservatives and Reformists in the European Parliament from July 2009 until March 2011. Kamiński was a founder member of the Christian National Union (ZChN) in 1989, and served on its board from 1995 to 2001. Kamiński was elected to the Sejm in 1997 for Solidarity Electoral Action, which included ZChN. In 2001, he joined the Right Alliance (PP), which merged with Law and Justice (PiS) the following year, having been reelected on the PP-PiS joint ticket in 2001. Aleksander Kwaśniewski
Aleksander Kwaśniewski (; born 15 November 1954) is a Polish politician and journalist. He served as the President of Poland from 1995 to 2005. He was born in Białogard, and during communist rule, he was active in the Socialist Union of Polish Students and was the Minister for Sport in the Communist government during the 1980s. After the fall of Communism, he became a leader of the left-wing Social Democracy of the Republic of Poland, a successor to the former ruling Polish United Workers' Party, and a co-founder of the Democratic Left Alliance. Kwaśniewski was elected to the presidency in 1995, defeating the incumbent, Lech Wałęsa. He was re-elected to a second and final term as president in 2000 in a decisive first-round victory. Bronisław Komorowski
Bronisław Maria Komorowski (; born 4 June 1952) is a Polish politician and historian who served as President of Poland from 2010 to 2015. Komorowski served as Minister of Defence from 2000 to 2001. As Marshal of the Sejm, Komorowski exercised the powers and duties of head of state following the death of President Lech Kaczyński in a plane crash on 10 April 2010. Komorowski was then the governing Civic Platform party's candidate in the resulting presidential election, which he won in the second round of voting on 4 July 2010. He was sworn in as President on 6 August 2010. Komorowski thus became the second person to serve on two occasions as Polish head of state since 1918, after Maciej Rataj. Mateusz Kijowski (born 12 December 1968) is an IT specialist, journalist, social activist, and blogger. Life and activism Born in Warsaw, Poland, Kijowski studied mathematics at the University of Warsaw.
