Charles Uniacke Mader
Charles Uniacke Mader (April 10, 1856 – May 27, 1929) was a merchant and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Lunenburg County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly as a Liberal Party of Nova Scotia, Liberal member from 1904 to 1911. Early life He was born in Maders Cove, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, the son of Francis Mader, of Germany, German descent, and Mary Andrews. Career He first worked as a clerk in a general store and then went into business on his own in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, Mahone Bay in 1880. Mader built a general store in Mahone Bay in 1887 and also operated a fishing fleet. He served as a member of the local school board. Death He died in Mahone Bay on May 27, 1929. Nova S ... Junibacken
Junibacken is a children’s attraction, founded by Staffan Götestam, Fredrik Uhrström and Peder Wallenberg. It is situated on the island of Djurgården in the centre of Stockholm, Sweden. It was officially opened by the Swedish Royal Family on 8 June 1996. It is Stockholm’s 5th most-visited tourist attraction. It is devoted to Swedish children’s literature, but especially Astrid Lindgren. Outside the building is a bronze statue of Lindgren. The art direction and images for the interior design were made by Swedish artist Marit Törnqvist, who had previously made illustrations for more recent versions of Lindgren's books. Junibacken contains the largest children’s bookstore in Sweden. The lockers in the entrance hall are unusual in that each is in the form of a giant book-spine, featuring world classics such as Treasure Island and The Jungle Book. Uniacke Estate Museum Park
Uniacke Estate Museum Park is the historic home and preserved estate of Richard John Uniacke at Mount Uniacke (c.1813). The Uniacke Estate is part of the Nova Scotia Museum system. History The estate was built as a country residence for Richard John Uniacke, Nova Scotia's Attorney-General during the War of 1812. Located along the "Post Road", the original road between Halifax and Windsor, the site was, according to Uniacke's s family, selected in 1776 while Uniacke being taken to Halifax in chains to face a treason trial for siding with the rebels in the Battle of Fort Cumberland. Uniacke glimpsed the lake and hillside setting and vowed that he would build his home. Uniacke was released as part of a leniency policy and when his career prospered, he acquired the land for his estate. Construction of the house began in 1813 and was completed in 1818. Uniacke Square
Uniacke Square is a public housing residential area in the north central area of Halifax, Nova Scotia. It is flanked in the northeast by Brunswick Street and to the southwest by Gottingen Street. History Uniacke Square was opened on May 7, 1966 as a 250-unit housing project. A library sits to the southeast, on Gottingen St., and a community centre, the George Dixon Centre, to the northwest. It was built to house the displaced population of Africville whose roots go back to refugees of the War of 1812, the Underground Railroad and American Civil War period. Homes in Africville were torn down as part of an urban renewal scheme between 1964 and 1967. Today, though some black residents of Uniacke Square are descendants of Africville, others are transplants from other Black Nova Scotian settlements who moved to the area. Dungarvan () is a coastal town and harbour in County Waterford, on the south-east coast of Ireland.
