Ungma
Ungma is an Ao Naga village situated 10 km south of Mokokchung, Nagaland, India. The village is divided into two parts, Yimpang (North) and Yimlang (South). In the heart of the village, i.e., between Yimpang and Yimlang, the Baptist Church stands, reflecting the dominance of Baptist faith in the everyday life of the village. Demographics In recent years, both Mokokchung and Ungma have grown due to increase in population and have become one continuous settlement. It is a part of the continuous settlements from Amenyong and Khensa in the Northwest and DEF colony in the Northeast through Mokokchung and Ungma up to Alichen in the south. This has resulted in an urban agglomeration that is the third largest in the state. With a population of 7,189 people (2001 census), Ungma is the third largest Ao village as also the third largest village in Mokokchung District. Mokokchung District
Mokokchung District (Pron:/ˌməʊkɒkˈtʃʌŋ/) is a districts of Nagaland, district of Nagaland state in India. The town of Mokokchung is its headquarters. The district is the home of the Ao Nagas. It is bounded by the state of Assam to its north, Wokha District to its west, Tuensang District and Longleng District to its east, and Zünheboto District to its south. History During the British Rule of India the Mokokchung area was part of the Naga Hills District, British India, Naga Hills District of Assam. Mokokchung
Mokokchung (Pron: /ˌməʊkɒkˈtʃʌŋ/) is a municipality in the Mokokchung District of Nagaland, India. It serves as the district headquarters as well as the main urban hub of Mokokchung District. Mokokchung is the cultural nerve centre of the Ao people and is economically and politically the most important urban centre in northern Nagaland. The town is made up of 16 wards of which Kumlong, Sangtemla, Alempang and Yimyu are the largest. Village

Ao People
The Ao Nagas are a major Naga ethnic group native to Mokokchung District of Nagaland, Northeast India. Their main territory is from Tsüla (Dikhu) Valley in the east to Tsürang (Disai) Valley in the west in Mokokchung District. The Ao Nagas refer to themselves as ''Aoer'', which means "those who came" from across the Dikhu river. They were the first Nagas to embrace Christianity and by virtue of this development the Aos availed themselves of the Western education that came along with Christianity. In the process the Aos pioneered among the Nagas in many fields. Christianity first entered into the Ao territory when an American Baptist missionary, Edwin W. Clark, reached an Ao village called Molungkimong in 1872. Distribution The total population of Ao Nagas in Nagaland is almost 227,000 according to the 2011 census.
