Underdogs (album)
''Underdogs'' is the second full-length studio album by the Canadian alternative rock group Matthew Good Band, released in 1997. In a 2000 poll by music magazine ''Chart'', ''Underdogs'' was voted the 18th Greatest Canadian album of all time. Background In December 1996, Matthew Good Band signed a two-album deal with Private Music. In mid-January, on the first day of pre-production for ''Underdogs'', the group was notified that BMG Entertainment North America was merging Private Music into Windham Hill/High Street Records, putting a halt to the production of the album. In mid-March, after negotiations, Windham Hill/High Street released the group from its contract. Good was paid what he was owed for the two albums, and the group decided to record the new album regardless of label support, using the money received from the divorce of their contract with Windham Hill/High Street to fund it. Drum Kit
A drum kit (also called a drum set, trap set, or simply drums) is a collection of drums, cymbals, and other auxiliary percussion instruments set up to be played by one person. Ian Browne (musician)
Ian Browne (born November 12, 1973) is a Canadian-born musician and composer. He was formerly with psych-blues band No Sinner, and before that notably the drummer of the popular Canadian rock group Matthew Good Band. Browne plays drums and performs backup vocals on The Prettys' upcoming second LP "Soirée". He also played on No Sinner's debut EP ''Boo Hoo Hoo'', and played drums and produced tracks on their 2016 LP " Old Habits Die Hard". He can also be heard on the Matthew Good Band albums ''Last of the Ghetto Astronauts'', ''Raygun'', ''Underdogs'', '' Lo-Fi B-Sides'', ''Beautiful Midnight'', '' Loser Anthems'', '' Audio of Being'', and the greatest hits compilation ''In a Coma''. Guitar
The guitar is a fretted musical instrument that typically has six strings. Matthew Good
Matthew Frederick Robert Good (born June 29, 1971) is a Canadian musician. He was the lead singer and songwriter for the Matthew Good Band, one of the most successful alternative rock bands in Canada during the 1990s and early 2000s. Since the band disbanded in 2002, Good has pursued a solo career and established himself as a political commentator and mental health activist. Between 1996 and 2016, with sales by Matthew Good Band included, Good was the 25th best-selling Canadian artist in Canada. Good has been nominated for 21 Juno Awards during his career, winning four. PolyGram N.V. was a multinational entertainment company and major music record label formerly based in the Netherlands. Windham Hill Records
Windham Hill Records was an independent record label that specialized in instrumental acoustic music. It was founded by guitarist William Ackerman and Anne Robinson (née McGilvray) in 1976 and was popular in the 1980s and 1990s. The label was purchased by Bertelsmann Music Group, BMG through a series of buyouts from 1992 through 1996 and is currently a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment after BMG's subsequent merger in 2008. Private Music, also a subsidiary of BMG, has issued some back-catalog releases under the Windham Hill Records imprint. Since the Sony merger in 2007, Windham Hill has released no new material but reissues albums and compilations as part of Sony's Legacy Recordings brand.
