The Under 20 Elite League, also known as the European Elite League, is an under-20 (U20) association football tournament founded in 2017. Competed in by national European U20 teams, it is the successor to the Under-20 Four Nations Tournament. The tournament's first winners were Germany national under-20 football team, Germany, with Netherlands national under-20 football team, Netherlands victorious in 2018–19 Under 20 Elite League, 2018–19. Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played between two teams of 11 players who primarily use their feet to propel the ball around a rectangular field called a pitch. Under-20 Four Nations Tournament
(german: Internationalen U-20 Spielrunde) is an annual under-20 football tournament. From the 2003–04 edition until the 2009–10 edition, the participating nations were Austria, Germany, Italy and Switzerland (the four Alpine nations). In 2011, Poland replaced Austria. For the 2017-2018 edition, the tournament was replaced by the ''Under 20 Elite League'', as the 2017–18 Under 20 Elite League. Germany National Under-20 Football Team
Germany national under-20 football team, also known as Germany Under-20s or Germany U20(s), represents Germany in association football at an under-20 age level and is controlled by German Football Association, the governing body for football in Germany. Because there is no under-20 competition at UEFA level, Germany's under-20 side has generally only played competitive matches when it has qualified for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, which is held every 2 years. 2017–18 Under 20 Elite League
The 2017–18 Under 20 Elite League was a football tournament for national under-20 football teams. It was the first edition of the Under 20 Elite League tournament. The tournament was announced by the German Football Association (DFB) on 23 January 2017 as an expansion of the Under-20 Four Nations Tournament. DFB's Sporting Director Horst Hrubesch described the formation of the competition as an "important step" in player development and hoped to encourage the public to take an interest in U-20 games.
