Umberto Marigliani
Umberto Marigliani (1885–1960) was an Italian painter, active in Northern Italy, painting sacred subjects. Biography He trained under Cesare Tallone and Ponziano Loverini at the Accademia Carrara, then at the Scuola d’arte ''Andrea Fantoni''. He then worked under Fermo Taragni. In 1907, he helped fresco the ceiling of the church of Sant’Antonio Abbandonato, near Val Brembilla. Nicknamed ''Tiepolino'' for his rapid fresco execution, he was active in Liguria and Switzerland. He helped found in 1913 the Società degli acquafortisti bergamaschi, and in 1938 made designs for the windows of the Sanctuary of Pompei. Cesare Tallone
Cesare Tallone (1853–1919) was an Italian painter. Biography Born in Savona and after losing his father at the age of ten, Cesare Tallone moved with his mother and sisters to Alessandria, where he became a pupil of the decorative artist Pietro Sassi. Some members of the local bourgeoisie commissioned the first portraits from him and persuaded the City Council to finance his studies. Thanks to this financial aid, Tallone was able to enrol in the Brera Academy in 1872, studying under Raffaele Casnedi, Luigi Riccardi and Giuseppe Bertini until 1880. His talent was obvious from his very first works and was recognised by Francesco Hayez, who allowed him the use of his own studio near the Academy. An active participant in the lively cultural milieu in Milan and member of the Famiglia Artistica since its foundation in 1873 by Vespasiano Bignami. Ponziano Loverini
Ponziano Loverini (July 6, 1845 – August 21, 1929) was an Italian painter, known primarily for his canvases and frescoes of sacred subjects. Biography Born in Gandino to a humble but pious tailor, Ponziano was helped by his uncle to enroll (1858) at the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo. A stipend from the city of Gandino sponsored his art study. There, he was a pupil of the painter Enrico Scuri. In 1881, he exhibited at Milan: ''St Bishop Philastrius''; in 1884 at Turin he exhibited the large canvas depicting ''St Francis entering a monastic order''. He exhibited at Milan a canvas depicting young nudes before a white background. In 1887 at Venice, he exhibited ''Coeci vident''. Among other works: ''Studi dal vero''; ''Il prediletto della nonna'' were exhibited at Milan in 1886. The Accademia Carrara, (), officially Accademia Carrara di Belle Arti di Bergamo, is an art gallery and an academy of fine arts in Bergamo, in Lombardy in northern Italy. The art gallery was established in about 1780 by , a Bergamasco collector or ' of the arts. The academy of fine arts was added to it in 1794. The school was recognised by the Ministero dell'Istruzione, dell'Università e della Ricerca, the Italian ministry of education, in 1988. It is the see of the Territorial Prelature of Pompei. History Bartolo Longo started restoring a church in disrepair in October 1873 and promoted a festival in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary. In 1875, Longo obtained a painting of Our Lady of the Rosary from a convent in Naples and raised funds to restore the image so as to locate it in the church. Miracles began to be reported and pilgrims began flocking in droves to the church. Three hundred people of the area pledged a penny a month for the work. San Vittore is a neoclassical-style Roman Catholic parish church in the town of Calcio, province of Bergamo, region of Lombardy, Italy. History Construction of the church began in 1770, but was interrupted in 1792, and not restarted until 1833. The designs of an architect Bianconi were not complete until 1880. The facade was finished with an accumulation of pilasters; the roofline has statues by Belcaro. The elaborate interiors were completed in the late 19th and early twentieth century. The spandrels were originally painted by Trecourt and then refurbished in 1876 by Antonio Guadagnini. The stucco statues of the apostles were completed by Gerolamo Count Oldofredi Tadini of Calcio.
