Uly-Zhylanshyk
The Uly-Zhylanshyk ( kk, Ұлы Жыланшық; russian: Улы-Жыланшык) is a river in Kazakhstan. It is long and has a catchment area of . It is one of the rivers of the Turgay Depression, flowing across the Amangeldi and Zhangeldi districts of the Kostanay Region, Kazakhstan. Its waters are used for irrigation. Course The river is formed at the confluence of rivers Dulygaly-Zhylanshyk from the right and the Ulken-Zhylanshyk from the left. Both have their sources in the Ulutau range of the Kazakh Uplands. The Uly-Zhylanshyk flows roughly westwards all along its course, sometimes bending northwest for a certain distance and others to the southwest. As it reaches its last stretch the river meanders strongly. Finally it flows into the northeastern shore of lake Akkol, an endorheic salt lake located in Zhangeldi District, north of Shalkarteniz. Akkol (lake)
Akkol, meaning "White Lake" ( kk, Ақкөл; russian: Акколь), is a salt lake in Zhangeldi District, in the SW sector of the Kostanay Region, Kazakhstan.Google Earth Local authorities try to promote tourism in the lake, but the area lacks the necessary infrastructure. The nearest inhabited locality is Akhmeta Baytursynuly to the east of the eastern shore. Geography Akkol is located in the southern part of the Turgay Depression at above sea level. It is an endorheic lake sharing the same depression as smaller lakes and salt pans nearby. A projecting spit in the northwestern shore of the lake divides the northern side into two bays. Kostanay Region ( kk, Қостанай облысы, translit=Qostanai oblysy; russian: Костанайская область, translit=Kostanayskaya oblast) is a region of Kazakhstan. Its administrative center is the city of Kostanay. The population of the region is 900,300. The population living in Kostanay is 207,000 which is equivalent to 23% of the region. Meanders
A meander is one of a series of regular sinuous curves in the channel of a river or other watercourse. It is produced as a watercourse erodes the sediments of an outer, concave bank (cut bank) and deposits sediments on an inner, convex bank which is typically a point bar. The result of this coupled erosion and sedimentation is the formation of a sinuous course as the channel migrates back and forth across the axis of a floodplain. The zone within which a meandering stream periodically shifts its channel is known as a meander belt. It typically ranges from 15 to 18 times the width of the channel. Endorheic
An endorheic basin (; also spelled endoreic basin or endorreic basin) is a drainage basin that normally retains water and allows no outflow to other external bodies of water, such as rivers or oceans, but drainage converges instead into lakes or swamps, permanent or seasonal, that equilibrate through evaporation. They are also called closed or terminal basins, internal drainage systems, or simply basins. Endorheic regions contrast with open and closed lakes, exorheic regions. Endorheic water bodies include some of the largest lakes in the world, such as the Caspian Sea, the world's largest inland body of water. Basins with subsurface outflows which eventually lead to the ocean are generally not considered endorheic; they are cryptorheic. Endorheic basins constitute local base levels, defining a limit of erosion and deposition processes of nearby areas.
