Ultimate Wrestling Israel (UWI), the fourth wrestling federation in Israel was founded in November 2015. The UWI currently has one belt, the UWI Shomer Shabbos Heavyweight Championship, previously known as the UWI Heavyweight Championship until February 2017. UWI Shomer Shabbos Heavyweight Championship UWI Heavyweight Championship crowned its first champion on 5 March 2016. On 1 February 2017 it was renamed to the UWI Shomer Shabbos Heavyweight Championship. Original tournament The tournament to crown the original holder of the UWI Heavyweight Championship was held over the source of three separate shows. 10 December 2015 saw the quarterfinals at UWI Showdown. On 7 January 2016 at UWI Gold Rush, there were the semifinals of the tournament. The finals were held on 5 March 2016 at UWI There Can Only Be One. Professional wrestling is a form of theater that revolves around staged wrestling matches. The mock combat is performed in a ring similar to the kind used in boxing, and the dramatic aspects of pro wrestling may be performed both in the ring or—as in televised wrestling shows—in backstage areas of the venue, in similar form to reality television. Professional wrestling as a form of theater evolved out of the widespread practice of match fixing among wrestlers in the early 20th century. Rather than sanction the wrestlers for their deceit as was done with boxers, the public instead came to see professional wrestling as a performance art rather than a sport. Lior Ben-David
Leeor Brooks, mostly known by his ring name "The Chutzpah" Lior Ben-David, is an Israeli- British professional wrestler and stand-up comedian. He is best known for his work on the European independent circuit. Career Brooks was an amateur boxer before he started a career as a professional wrestler. His debut match took place in 2012 with a local Israeli promotion. Later he traveled to England to train under the guidance of Danny Boy Collins and started to work for different promotions across Europe and North America. In 2016 he became the first Israeli to work under the banner of the American promotion Combat Zone Wrestling. His appearance in CZW was popular in Israel, as his signature move ''The Chosen People's Elbow'' was showcased on the popular tv-show '' Hazinor''. Tomer Shalom
Tomer Shalom (born Tomer Sidi) is an Israeli professional wrestler who was trained by Rob Fuego in Canada. Early life Born in Holon, Israel, Sidi grew up in Tel Aviv. In 2010, after completing his service in the Israeli Defence Forces, Sidi moved to Canada in order to begin his training to become a professional wrestler. Professional wrestling career After arriving in Canada in 2010, Sidi first went to both Calgary and Winnipeg before ultimately winding up at Squared Circle Wrestling where he was trained by Rob Fuego. On November 1, 2012 Tomer returned to Israel to wrestle for the first time and wrestled Lior Libman at Israeli Pro Wrestling Association's Wrestling In The Rain event. Netanya (also known as Natanya, he, נְתַנְיָה) is a city in the Northern Central District of Israel, and is the capital of the surrounding Sharon plain. Bat Yam ( he, בַּת יָם or ) is a city located on Israel's Mediterranean Sea coast, on the Central Coastal Plain just south of Tel Aviv. Jaffa
Jaffa, in Hebrew Yafo ( he, יָפוֹ, ) and in Arabic Yafa ( ar, يَافَا) and also called Japho or Joppa, the southern and oldest part of Tel Aviv-Yafo, is an ancient port city in Israel. Beit Yanai ( he, בֵּית יַנַּאי, lit. ''House of Yanai'') is a moshav in central Israel. Professional wrestling in Israel has been promoted in the country since the 1950s after the nation's establishment. Israeli professional wrestling promotions In the 1950s, Rafael Halperin worked in the United States as a professional wrestler in Vince McMahon Sr.'s Capitol Wrestling Corporation. He later returned to Israel, where he popularized professional wrestling. His most well known matches in Israel were against Achmad Fuad and the "Jordanian Tiger" Abu Antar. The match with Fuad took place on 18 June 1966 in front of 6,000 fans at the Bloomfield Stadium and caused the police to use tear gas after a big riot broke out immediately after Fuad attacked the victorious Halperin. The match with Abu Antar took place on 20 September 1973 and was the most successful local wrestling match seen in the country, as the Yad Eliyahu Arena was sold out to witness Halperin defeat the "Jordanian Tiger".
