Ulster Junior Hurling Championship
The Ulster Junior Hurling Championship is a junior "knockout" competition in the game of Hurling played in the province of Ulster in Ireland. The series of games are organised by the Ulster Council. The winners of the Ulster Junior Hurling Championship each year progress to play the other provincial champions for a chance to win the All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship. The competition has not been played since 2004, as all the counties now participate in either the Joe McDonagh Cup, Christy Ring Cup, Nicky Rackard Cup or Lory Meagher Cup Top winners Roll of honour * 1970 No record of a championship. Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. Monaghan GAA
The Monaghan County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Luthchleas Gael Coiste Mhuineacháin) or Monaghan GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Monaghan and the Monaghan county football and hurling teams. The series of games are organised by the Leinster Council. The winners of the Leinster Junior Hurling Championship each year progress to play the other provincial champions for a chance to win the All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship. Generally, the strong hurling counties have fielded their second team in this competition. In recent years though, they have participated in the Leinster Intermediate Hurling Championship instead. Since 2005, the competition has been suspended, with the counties participating in the Christy Ring Cup or Nicky Rackard Cup instead. Generally, the strong hurling counties have fielded their second team in this competition. In recent years though, they have participated in the Munster Intermediate Hurling Championship instead. The competition has been suspended and is unlikely to be re-established. In the years between 1961 and 1973 Kerry represented Munster in the All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship.
