Ulrike Draesner
Ulrike Draesner (born 1962 in Munich) is a German author. She was awarded the 2016 Nicolas Born Prize. Life and work The daughter of an architect, Draesner grew up in Munich, Germany. She received a Bavarian State scholarship for the best performing student at Gymnasium (Sixth Form) from the . She read Law, English and German literature as well as Philosophy in Munich, Salamanca, and Oxford. She worked as a lecturer Institute for German Philology from 1989 to 1993. In 1992, she received her doctorate for a dissertation on the Middle High German romance Parzival. In 1993, Draesner quit her academic career in order to work as a full-time author. She has lived in Berlin since 1994, writing both poetry and prose. Her novel ''Vorliebe'' (2010) is a romance novel. In 2014, her groundbreaking novel ''Sieben Sprünge vom Rand der Welt'' was published and a celebrated success. Gertrude Stein (February 3, 1874 – July 27, 1946) was an American novelist, poet, playwright, and art collector. ''Text+Kritik'' (stylized ''text+kritik'') is a quarterly German journal for literature, music, film, and cultural studies in which German-language writers have their works analysed and presented by fellow writers and experts in literary research and criticism. It was founded in 1963 by Heinz Ludwig Arnold who edited it from then until his death in 2011. At the time of the first edition, which appeared in 1963 and was dedicated to Günter Grass, the editorial team consisted of Lothar Baier, Gerd Hemmerich, Jochen Meyer, Wolf Wondratschek and Heinz Ludwig Arnold himself. Deutscher Buchpreis
The German Book Prize (''Deutscher Buchpreis'') is awarded annually, in October, by the German Publishers and Booksellers Association (''Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels'') to the best new German language novel of the year. The books, published in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, are nominated by their publishers, who can propose up to two books from their current or planned publication list. The books should be in shops before the short-list is announced in September of the award year. The winner is awarded €25,000, while the five shortlisted authors receive €2,500 each. It is presented annually during the Frankfurt Book Fair. The prize was created in 2005, as a successor to the Deutscher Bücherpreis, to heighten awareness for authors writing in German. Roswitha-Preis
The Roswitha Prize (german: Roswitha-Preis) is the oldest German language prize for literature that is given solely to women. The Roswitha-Medal has been given almost yearly since 1973 by the city of Bad Gandersheim. In 1998 it received its modern designation along with an endowment of €5,500. It is named for Roswitha of Gandersheim, a 10th-century Benedictine nun who is considered the first female German playwright and author.
