Ukrainian Records In Athletics
Ukrainian records in athletics are the Ukrainian athletes' results which Ukrainian Athletics acknowledges to be the best in certain athletics events. The procedure for ratification of Ukrainian national records is largely based on the approach taken by IAAF in ratifying the world records and is set out in the Regulations for Ukrainian National Records in Athletics approved by the Council of the Ukrainian Athletics on 16 September 2017. Ukrainian Athletics maintains national records in five age categories: under-16; under-18; under-20; under-23; senior. A record in each age category can be either absolute (i.e., achieved on an outdoor or indoor facility) or indoor. The 400 metres, or 400-meter dash, is a sprint event in track and field competitions. The men's 200 metres was an event at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. The competition was held on 3–4 September. There were 57 competitors from 42 nations. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The event was won by Valeriy Borzov of the Soviet Union, the nation's first medal in the event. Larry Black took silver, extending the United States' podium streak in the men's 200 metres to nine Games. Italy earned its first medal in the event since 1960 with Pietro Mennea's bronze. Background This was the 16th appearance of the event, which was not held at the first Olympics in 1896 but has been on the program ever since. 200 Metres
The 200 metres, or 200-meter dash, is a sprint running event. On an outdoor 400 metre racetrack, the race begins on the curve and ends on the home straight, so a combination of techniques is needed to successfully run the race. A slightly shorter race, called the '' stadion'' and run on a straight track, was the first recorded event at the ancient Olympic Games. The 200 m places more emphasis on speed endurance than shorter sprint distances as athletes predominantly rely on anaerobic energy system during the 200 m sprint. Similarly to other sprint distances, the 200 m begins from the starting blocks. When the sprinters adopt the 'set' position in the blocks they are able to adopt a more efficient starting posture and isometrically preload their muscles. The men's 100 metres sprint event at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, West Germany, was held at Olympiastadion on 31 August and 1 September. Eighty-five athletes from 55 nations competed. Valeriy Pylypovych Borzov ( uk, Валерій Пилипович Борзов; russian: Валерий Филиппович Борзов, Valeriy Filippovich Borzov; born 20 October 1949) is a former Soviet sprinter. He is a two-time Olympian, a former president of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, and Minister for Youth and Sports of Ukraine. Men's 100 Metres Ukrainian Record Progression
Ukrainian records in 100 metres are now ratified by the Ukrainian Athletic Federation among the results achieved by Ukrainian athletes on track. Progression The first Ukrainian national record, which is known to be ratified, dates back to 1921. Up until 1977, the national governing body ratified only hand-timed results as records. Starting from 1977 (the year of introducing the mandatory automatic time measurement in sprint events), Ukrainian governing body in athletics started keeping the auto-timed national records in 100 metres. It was the result of Valeriy Borzov (10.07), his winning time in the 1972 Olympics' quarterfinal, to become the first and remaining the only auto-timed national record in the history of Ukrainian athletics.
