Uddingston
Uddingston ( sco, Uddinstoun, gd, Baile Udain) is a small town in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is on the north side of the River Clyde, south-east of Glasgow city centre, and acts as a dormitory suburb for the city. Geography and boundaries Uddingston is located to the south-east of Glasgow city centre and approximately east of the Glasgow City Council boundary (ending at the former Glasgow Zoo at Broomhouse - part of Baillieston). It is bounded to the south-west by the River Clyde as it flows north-west towards Glasgow, separating Uddingston, along with some woodland, from the neighbouring towns of Blantyre to the south and Cambuslang to the west. As such, the Clyde Walkway and National Cycle Route 75 both traverse the town. The nearest settlement to Uddingston is the large village of Bothwell, almost contiguous to the south-east; the two main streets are apart. Uddingston RFC
Uddingston Rugby Football Club is a rugby union team, based in Uddingston, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. The club's home is at Uddingston Cricket and Sports Club, Bothwell Castle Policies, Castle Avenue, Uddingston. G71 7HJ. In addition to Senior 1st and 2nd XV teams the club also has a thriving youth rugby section with players at every age group ranging from Primary 1 through to under-18. New for 2021 was the formation of our Women's team; The Selkies. Season 2013–14 The 1st XV won the West Regional League West Three title losing only one game. The team also won the RBS West Regional Bowl and were semi-finalists in the RBS National Bowl competition narrowly losing to the eventual winners. Uddingston And Bellshill (Scottish Parliament Constituency)
Uddingston and Bellshill is a constituency of the Scottish Parliament ( Holyrood) covering part of the council areas of North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire. It elects one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the plurality (first past the post) method of election. It is also one of nine constituencies in the Central Scotland electoral region, which elects seven additional members, in addition to nine constituency MSPs, to produce a form of proportional representation for the region as a whole. The constituency was formed for the 2011 Scottish Parliament election, and comprises parts of the former seat of Hamilton North and Bellshill, along with areas that were formerly in the seat of Motherwell and Wishaw. Bothwell And Uddingston (ward)
Bothwell and Uddingston is one of the twenty wards used to elect members of the South Lanarkshire Council. It elects three councillors. As its name suggests, the ward's territory comprises the adjoining suburban villages of Bothwell and Uddingston, bounded by the River Clyde to the west and south, and the M74 motorway to the north and east bordering the Thorniewood ward of North Lanarkshire (the localities of which were often historically considered parts of Uddingston, particularly before the two parts were divided between the districts of Hamilton and Motherwell in 1975); these boundaries were unaffected by a 2017 national review. Viewpark is an area in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. Situated immediately north-east of Uddingston (but on the other side of the M74 motorway), Viewpark is west of Bellshill. Tannochside
Tannochside is a settlement approximately south-east of Glasgow, Scotland. Although historically considered part of Uddingston, it lies within a separate local authority area: Tannochside is contained within the boundaries of North Lanarkshire council (situated between the Birkenshaw and Viewpark neighbourhoods in the Thorniewood ward), whereas the original village of Uddingston is in South Lanarkshire. Tannochside is part of the Greater Glasgow conurbation. It is often debated as to where the borders lie between Tannochside and other nearby areas. Bothwell Castle Cricket Ground
Bothwell Castle Policies Cricket Ground is a cricket ground in Uddingston, Scotland, and is named after the nearby Bothwell Castle. The first recorded match held on the ground came in 1902 when Uddingston played a friendly against Gloucestershire. 110 years later the ground held its first List A match when Scotland played Glamorgan in the 2012 Clydesdale Bank 40. A further List A match was held there in that same competition, with Hampshire the visitors. Bothwell Castle was given these games due to damage caused by vandalism at Mannofield Park in Aberdeen, which was originally to host the two matches. The ground is still used by Uddingston Cricket Club, where the first team lose regularly, whilst the second team are undefeated in a long time. Thomas Tunnock Limited, commonly known as Tunnock's, is a confectionery company based in Uddingston, Scotland. It is headed by Sir Boyd Tunnock, Boyd Tunnock, grandson of Thomas. In 2013, a joint report by Family Business United and Close Brothers Asset Management named it the 20th oldest family firm in Scotland. As of 2019, Tunnock's has been the sponsor of the Scottish Challenge Cup in Scottish football. Bothwell is a conservation village in the South Lanarkshire council area of Scotland. It lies on the north bank of the River Clyde, adjacent to Uddingston and Hamilton, east-south-east of Glasgow city centre. Broomhouse, Glasgow
Broomhouse ( sco, Bruimhoose) is a residential area in Glasgow, Scotland. It is about east of the city centre. Historically a small mining village and later the site of the Glasgow Zoo, in the early 21st century it grew substantially as an affluent commuter suburb. Although close to Baillieston and within the Glasgow boundaries, the neighbourhood has a G71 postcode which has often led to it being associated with Uddingston, the main town for that district which is about to the south-east in the South Lanarkshire local authority area. Bellshill (pronounced "Bells hill") is a town in North Lanarkshire in Scotland, southeast of Glasgow city centre and west of Edinburgh. Other nearby localities are Motherwell to the south, Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Hamilton to the southwest, Viewpark to the west, Holytown to the east and Coatbridge to the north.
