UIC Flames Baseball
The UIC Flames baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of the University of Illinois at Chicago in Chicago, Illinois, United States. The team is a member of the Missouri Valley Conference, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. The team plays its home games at Les Miller Field at Curtis Granderson Stadium in Chicago, Illinois. The Flames are coached by Sean McDermott. Sean McDermott (baseball)
Sean McDermott is a baseball coach and former shortstop, who is the current head baseball coach of the UIC Flames. He played college baseball at Indian Hills Community College from 1990 to 1991, before transferring to Lincoln Memorial from 1992–1993. He then served as the head coach of the Viterbo V-Hawks (1996–1998). Playing career McDermott attended and played baseball at Indian Hills Community College. He transferred to Lincoln Memorial University. As a junior, he had 3 stolen bases in 5 attempts. His best season came as a senior, posting a .266 batting average, a .404 on-base percentage, 33 runs score, 40 walks and 11 stolen bases. He concluded his playing career with 40 walks, at the time a program record. Coaching career Following the conclusion of his playing career, McDermott stayed around at Lincoln Memorial as a graduate assistant for a year, while finishing his degree. Trevor Lane
Trevor Lane (born April 26, 1994) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Chicago Dogs of the American Association of Professional Baseball. He was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 10th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft. Career Lane attended Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie, Washington. He played for the school's baseball team as a pitcher and first baseman, and was named the Gatorade Washington Player of the Year in 2012. He enrolled at Lower Columbia College, where he played college baseball for two years, and transferred to the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) to play for the UIC Flames. Mike Dee (baseball Coach)
Mike Dee (born May 20, 1958) is an American former baseball coach and outfielder. He played college baseball at the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse. He served as the head baseball coach at the UIC Flames (1999–2021). Under him, UIC reached six NCAA Tournaments. Before coming to UIC, he was an assistant at Minnesota. Playing career Dee was raised near Chicago before moving to Wisconsin for his senior year of high school. He played high school baseball at Benet Academy in Lisle, Illinois for three years and at Aquinas High School in La Crosse, Wisconsin for one. He attended the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, where he played three seasons of baseball for the Indians. In 1979, Dee's senior season, the team reached the NAIA World Series. Curtis Granderson
Curtis Granderson Jr. (born March 16, 1981), nicknamed the "Grandyman", is an American former professional baseball outfielder. He played 16 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, Milwaukee Brewers, and Miami Marlins. Granderson played college baseball at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He was selected by the Tigers in the 2002 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut with the Tigers in 2004. Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference
The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) is a college athletic conference affiliated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Its 14 members are located in the Midwestern United States. In many sports, the conference champion qualifies directly for national competition. The CCAC sanctions play in eight men's and eight women's sports. NCAA Division I (D-I) is the highest level of intercollegiate athletics sanctioned by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the United States, which accepts players globally.
