UAAP Season 79 Volleyball Tournaments
The UAAP Season 79 volleyball tournaments started on February 4, 2017 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, with the opening games of the men and women's senior volleyball tourneys, participated by 8 regular UAAP members. Aside from the Smart Araneta Coliseum, the games will also be held at the Filoil Flying V Centre, San Juan City and the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay. The tournament host is the University of Santo Tomas, the season's host school. Rustico "Otie" Camangian will serve as the commissioner of the tournament. The Ateneo Blue Eagles completed a historic 16-game season sweep earning their 3rd consecutive title against the NU Bulldogs whom they tamed for 12 straight head-to-head matchups since Season 77. Isabel Beatriz "Bea" Paras de Leon (born August 2, 1996) is a Filipino professional volleyball player who currently plays for the club team Choco Mucho Flying Titans in the PVL. She played for the Ateneo Lady Eagles in the UAAP for five straight years and on her final year, led her team to its third championship and was named the UAAP Season 81 Finals MVP. De Leon was selected to the 2015 Philippine Women's National Volleyball Team that represented the country during U23 and 2015 SEA Games. Julia Melissa "Jia" Morado-De Guzman (born May 10, 1995) is a Filipino volleyball player. She was a member of the Ateneo Lady Eagles and was team's captain in the UAAP Season 79 Women's Volleyball tournament. In 2018 Jia was also a member of the Philippines Women's National Volleyball Team. Career She also played in the 2012 Palarong Pambansa and led the NCR Team to a championship, where she also won the Best Setter award. Ma. Deanna Izabella Alvizo Wong (born July 18, 1998) is a Filipino professional volleyball athlete. Wong was a member of the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Blue Eagles, the school's women's varsity volleyball team from 2016 to 2020. During Season 80 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) in 2018, she won the Best Setter Award. While being a part of the team, Ateneo was the UAAP runner-up in 2016 and 2017, won bronze in 2018, and became the champions in 2019. Katrina Mae De Lara Tolentino (born January 27, 1995) is a Filipino-Canadian volleyball player who currently plays for the Choco Mucho Flying Titans in the Premier Volleyball League. Personal life Tolentino came from a Filipino-Canadian sports family in British Columbia. She currently plays for the Chery Tiggo Crossovers in the Premier Volleyball League. The UST Growling Tigers are the college athletic teams representing the University of Santo Tomas in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines. They hold the most UAAP Overall Championships with 44 Seniors' Overall Championships (out of 73 seasons) and 21 Juniors' Overall Championships (out of 26 seasons).
