Tyler Hamilton (reporter)
Tyler Jay Hamilton (born June 6, 1970) is a Canadian author, cleantech expert and former business and technology reporter specializing in clean technology. He is currently Director of Cleantech aMaRS Discovery District and a former Adjunct Professor at York University's Faculty of Environmental Studies. Previously, Hamilton was Editor-in-Chief of Corporate Knights magazine, and Climate and Economy Reporter with the Toronto Star, Canada's largest daily-circulation newspaper. Biography Born in Mississauga, Ontario, Hamilton has an Honours BA in political science and legal philosophy from the University of Toronto (1989–94), and a Masters of Journalism from Carleton University (1994–96). Between 1999 and 2001 he served as technology reporter at Canada's national newspaper, The Globe and Mail. Nonprofit journalism or philanthrojournalism is the practice of journalism funded largely by donations and foundations. The growth in this sector has been helped by funders seeing a need for public interest journalism like investigative reporting amidst the decline in revenue for for-profit journalism. Transparency and diversified funding streams have been put forward as best-practices for these types of organizations. MaRS Discovery District is a not-for-profit corporation founded in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 2000.
