Twomey
Twomey ( ga, Ó Tuama) is an Irish Gaelic clan based most prominently in what is today County Cork. The paternal ancestors of the clan are of the Corcu Loígde; the Twomey clan originated from Donnchadh na Tuaima who was himself a member of the O'Leary family. The Twomey family motto is "fortis undis et armis" which translates to 'strong waves and arms'. William Twomey (born 14 April 1977) is an Irish equestrian and is Ireland's highest ranked show jumper. Rolex World Ranking Twomey had been steadily climbing up the World Rankings for years until finally, in June 2011 (Ranking no. 125) he reached his highest ever Ranking of 3rd place. Clare Twomey (born 1968 in Ipswich) is a London-based visual artist and researcher, working in performance, serial production, and site-specific installation. Education and academic career Twomey attended the Edinburgh College of Art from 1991 to 1994 and received an MA in Ceramics and Glass from the Royal College of Art in London in 1996. In 2011 she became a Research Fellow in the School of Media, Arts and Design at the University of Westminster, where she is affiliated with the Ceramics Research Centre. Moss (Maurice) Twomey
Maurice Twomey ( ga, Muirgheas Ó Tuama; 10 June 1897 – October 1978) was an Irish republican and the longest serving chief of staff of the Irish Republican Army (IRA). Early life Twomey was born in 1897 in Clondulane, near Fermoy, County Cork, Ireland and was educated by the Congregation of Christian Brothers. The son of a labourer at Hallinan’s Flour Mills in the town, Twomey went to work there at the age of 14 where he rose to the position of works manager. Joe Twomey
Joseph Twomey (born 1931) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a midfielder for the Cork senior team. Born in Blackpool, Cork, Twomey was introduced to hurling in his youth. He developed his skills at the North Monastery, however, his tenure at the school coincided with a fallow period in terms of success. Twomey came to prominence at underage levels with Glen Rovers before making his senior debut in 1950. He won six championship medals over a decade-long club career. Twomey made his debut on the inter-county scene when he first linked up with the Cork senior team for the 1952 championship. He went on to play a key role at midfield during a hugely successful era for Cork, and won two All-Ireland medals, two Munster medals and one National Hurling League medal. Christina Louise Twomey, is an Australian historian and academic. Education and career Twomey was born in Queensland and attended Mac.Robertson Girls' High School in Melbourne. She graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Arts with Honours. She returned to the university in 1992 to complete her Doctor of Philosophy, graduating in 1996. She is the first female judge in the history of Seychelles and also the first woman to be appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Seychelles. David Twomey
David Twomey (born 21 February 1961) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A member of Collingwood's famous Twomey family, David is the grandson of Bill Twomey senior and nephew of 1953 premiership players Bill, Mick and Pat. He was recruited to Collingwood from Ivanhoe Amateurs and played his football mostly as a half back flanker. Michael John Twomey (25 September 1931 – 14 December 2015) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Collingwood Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). At 185cm (6'1") in height, Collingwood's Mick Twomey was taller than his brothers Bill and Pat. Recruited from Yarra Valley, he played most of his 157 VFL games between 1951 and 1961 as a ruckman. In fact he was short for a ruckman; but he had remarkable spring, and newspapers often carried photos of him seeming to soar over opponents.
