Tutuveni
Tutuveni is a prehistoric petroglyph site at the base of Echo Cliffs in Coconino County, Arizona. The Hopi, who have historic interest in this site, refer to it as "Tutuveni" meaning "Newspaper Rock". The site was used by young Hopi men during their ceremonial pilgrimages to Ongtupqa (the Grand Canyon) to mark their passage into adulthood. They would stop and camp at the site and would etch their clan symbols onto the rocks, showing their participation and passage in that pilgrimage. This was a tradition that was carried on for four to five centuries by the Hopi. Although the site is recognized as a Hopi traditional cultural property, it is located on land now owned by the Navajo Nation. There was therefore a decades-old dispute whereby the neighboring tribes fought over the ownership of the land. Echo Cliffs
The Echo Cliffs are a prominent geological feature in northern Arizona. The cliffs stretch for and reach over 1000 feet (300 m) high. They are found in Coconino County, Arizona, Coconino County in the Navajo Nation about 20 miles (32 km) east of Grand Canyon National Park. U.S. Highway 89 runs parallel to the cliffs for . The Tutuveni petroglyphs are found at a site at the base of the cliffs. Geology The cliffs form the western escarpment of a mesa called the Kaibito Plateau and follow the axis of the Echo Monocline. Rocks of the Wingate Sandstone, Wingate sandstone, Navajo Sandstone, Kayenta Formation, all part of the Glen Canyon Group, crop out along the cliffs' length. The Chinle Formation underlies the Glen Canyon Group in the Echo Cliffs area. Comparatively little Scree, talus is found at the base of the cliffs. Newspaper Rock State Historic Monument
Newspaper Rock State Historic Monument is a Utah state monument featuring a rock panel carved with one of the largest known collections of petroglyphs. It is located in San Juan County, along Utah State Route 211, northwest of Monticello and south of Moab. It is along the relatively well-traveled access road into the Needles district of Canyonlands National Park, from US 191 and from the park boundary. The rock is a part of the vertical Wingate sandstone cliffs that enclose the upper end of Indian Creek Canyon, and is covered by hundreds of petroglyphs—one of the largest, best preserved and easily accessed groups in the Southwest. The petroglyphs feature a mixture of human, animal, material and abstract forms. Cameron, Arizona
Cameron ( nv, ) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Coconino County, Arizona, United States, on the Navajo Nation. The population was 885 at the 2010 census. Most of the town's economy is tourist food and craft stalls, restaurants, and other services for north–south traffic from Flagstaff and Page. There is a ranger station supplying information and hiking permits for the Navajo Nation as well as a small selection of books for sale. There is also a large craft store run by the Nation itself; most vendors in the area operate from small private stalls. It is named after Ralph H. Cameron, Arizona's first senator.
