''Gemmula'', common name the gem turrids, is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Turridae, the turrids. These snails have been recorded as fossils from the Paleocene to the Quaternary (from 66.043 to 0.012 Ma). Fossils have been found all over the world. This genus is still regarded as paraphyletic and should be revised. A high number of undescribed species are estimated to belong to ''Gemmula''. Since independent “Gemmula-like” lineages are distributed all over the turrid tree, a revision of ''Gemmula'' would entail again a complete revision of the family Turridae. They are venomous with disulfide-rich polypeptides in their venom ducts. Polystira
''Polystira'' is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Turridae, the turrids. Taxonomy Paul Bartsch (1934) states the genus ''Polystira'' was created by W. P. Woodring in 1928 for certain large West Indian turrids. He named the largest of the recent species, generally known as ''Pleurotoma albida'' Perry, as type. Unfortunately, the mollusk so designated is not ''Pleurotoma albida'' Perry, which Perry states " is frequently found at New Zealand and Lord Howe Island." Perry's figure 4, plate 32, of this species does not agree with the West Indian material. It clearly resembles certain shells from North Australia in the collection of the National Museum. The name is, therefore, not applicable to the West Indian shell, which will have to carry the next available designation. Gemmuloborsonia
''Gemmuloborsonia'' is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family (biology), family Turridae. Description This genus was previously provisionally included in the family Clavatulidae as the characters of the shell and the radula of this genus resemble more the characters of this family than those of the family Horaiclavidae. However, it differs from the other genera in this family by its weak columellar pleats and the multispiral protoconch in the Recent specie. However the extinct species type has a paucispiral, globose and almost smooth protoconch. This must then be considered an apomorphic character state. The fusiform shell is moderately small. The Spire (mollusc), spire is relatively high and the base is contracted. The spire shows a peripheral cord with gemmules. The anal sinus is deep and its crest reaches the peripheral cord.
