Tullaroan is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the village of Tullaroan in County Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was founded in 1884 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. Tullaroan is the most successful club in the history of the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship. History Tullaroan is the oldest GAA club in County Kilkenny. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. Ann Downey
Ann Downey (born 1957 in Castlecomer, Ireland) is a retired camogie player, winner of 12 All Ireland inter-county medals, captaining the team in 1989 and 1994, and seven All-Ireland club medals with St Paul's and Lisdowney (1) – one more than her sister Angela who was suspended for one final. Family background Her father, Shem Downey won an All-Ireland medal with Kilkenny in 1947, playing in one of the greatest finals in hurling history. Her twin sister Angela was cited in 2004 as the greatest player in the history of camogie. Career She went to school in Castlecomer before joining her sister in St Brigid’s in Callan. Pádraig Walsh
Pádraig Walsh (born 12 March 1992) is an Irish hurler who plays for Kilkenny Senior Championship club Tullaroan and previously at inter-county level with the Kilkenny senior hurling team. He usually lines out as a centre back Playing career St. Kieran's College Walsh first came to prominence as a hurler with St. Kieran's College in Kilkenny. He played in every grade of hurling before eventually joining the college's senior hurling team. Jack Rochford
John Rochford (24 April 1882 – 17 October 1953) was an Irish hurler who played as a full-back at senior level for the Kilkenny county team. Born in Threecastles, County Kilkenny, Rochford first played competitive hurling and cricket in his youth. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty when he first linked up with the Kilkenny senior team. He made his senior debut during the 1902 championship. Rochford immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen, and won seven All-Ireland medals and nine Leinster medals. As a member of the Leinster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions, Rochford won three Railway Shield medals. Patrick Phelan (16 September 1910 – 7 December 1971) was an Irish hurler who played as a left wing-back for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Freshford, County Kilkenny, Phelan arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-one when he first linked up with the Kilkenny senior team. He made his debut in the 1931 championship. Phelan went on to play a key part for more than a decade, and won four All-Ireland medals, eight Leinster medals and one National Hurling League medal. James Phelan (6 April 1917 – 5 January 2006) was an Irish hurler who played as a left corner-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Ballyragget, County Kilkenny, Phelan first played competitive hurling whilst at school in Mount Sion CBS. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Waterford minor team. He made his senior debut for Kilkenny in the 1939 championship. Jim Lawlor (hurler)
James Lalor (16 October 1877 – 28 February 1956) was an Irish hurler who played as a midfielder for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Threecastles, County Kilkenny, Lalor first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty when made his senior debut in the 1897 championship. Lalor went on to play a key part for Kilkenny during the team's breakthrough and first golden age, and won two All-Ireland medals and six Leinster medals. Jack Keoghan
Jack Keoghan (29 March 1887 – May 1963) was an Irish hurler. His championship career with the Kilkenny senior team lasted eight seasons from 1907 to 1914. Born in Tullaroan, County Kilkenny, Keoghan was just fifteen years old when he joined the Tullaroan senior team in 1902. Over the course of the following twelve years he won three county championship medals. Keoghan made his debut on the inter-county scene when he was selected for the Kilkenny senior team for the 1907 championship. As a regular member of the team over the next eight seasons he won five All-Ireland medals, beginning with triumphs in 1907 and 1909 and ending with three championships in-a-row from 1911 to 1913.
