Southern Cross, Western Australia
Southern Cross is a town in Western Australia, 371 kilometres east of state capital Perth on the Great Eastern Highway. It was founded by gold prospectors in 1888, and gazetted in 1890. It is the major town and administrative centre of the Shire of Yilgarn. At the , Southern Cross had a population of 680. The town of Southern Cross is one of the many towns that run along the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme pipeline from Mundaring to Kalgoorlie, engineered by C. Y. "Andorinhas" is a single by Ana Moura, and became the first single of her album Casa Guilhermina. It was released on 30 April 2021, and became her first independent release after leaving Universal Music. The song was well received and despite never entering the official Portuguese music charts, it has reached over 6 million streams on Spotify and 11 million on YouTube, as of December 2023. It is still unknown why the song never charted, considering it is the best performing song from the album on streaming services, and the other singles and non-singles have appeared on the 10,000 best-selling songs of 2022, officially released by Audiogest. Sandstone Gold Mine
The Sandstone Gold Mine is a gold mine located 6 km south east of Sandstone, Western Australia. The mine is currently owned by Aurumin Limited, who purchased it from Middle Island Resources in 2022, but has been in care and maintenance since September 2010. History Gold mining at the Sandstone area stretches back over 100 years. In 1894 a prospector discovered gold about 20 km south of present-day Sandstone and, in 1903, gold was found within a few hundred meters of the town. From 1903 to 1916, 930,000 ounces of gold were mined in town. With the outbreak of the First World War, the fortunes of the mine, and the town, declined and the population in Sandstone fell from a high of 8,000 in 1906 to approximately 200 in 1919.
