Trost Rocks

	Trost Rocks Trost Rocks () is a two rock outcrops at the northeast end of Single Island on the west side of the Amery Ice Shelf. The rocks were photographed from ANARE (Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions) aircraft in 1956 and their position fixed by a field party in December 1962. 	Single Island Single Island is a high ice-covered island on the west side of the Amery Ice Shelf about south of Landon Promontory. First plotted by ANARE ( Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions) from air photos taken in 1956, but incorrectly shown as a promontory. Later mapped by ANARE as an island. Named by Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) for M. Single, senior diesel mechanic at Mawson Station in 1962, a member of the ANARE field party which visited the area in December 1962. Dodson Rocks The Dodson Rocks () are two small, dark rock exposures on the south side of Single Island, on the west side of the Amery Ice Shelf. picture info	Amery Ice Shelf The Amery Ice Shelf () is a broad ice shelf in Antarctica at the head of Prydz Bay between the Lars Christensen Coast and Ingrid Christensen Coast. It is part of Mac. Robertson Land. The name "Cape Amery" was applied to a coastal angle mapped on 11 February 1931 by the British Australian New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition (BANZARE) under Douglas Mawson. He named it for William Bankes Amery, a civil servant who represented the United Kingdom government in Australia (1925–28). The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names interpreted this feature to be a portion of an ice shelf and, in 1947, applied the name Amery to the whole shelf. In 2001 two holes were drilled through the ice shelf by scientists from the Australian Antarctic Division and specially designed seabed sampling and photographic equipment was lowered to the underlying seabed. 	Antarctic Names Committee Of Australia The Australian Antarctic Names and Medals Committee (AANMC) was established to advise the Government on names for features in the Australian Antarctic Territory and the subantarctic territory of Heard Island and the McDonald Islands. The committee also issues nominations Governor General for the award of the Australian Antarctic Medal. Committee members were appointed by the Minister or Parliamentary Secretary responsible for Antarctic matters. 	Mawson Station The Mawson Station, commonly called Mawson, is one of three permanent bases and research outposts in Antarctica managed by the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD). Mawson lies in Holme Bay in Mac. Robertson Land, East Antarctica in the Australian Antarctic Territory, a territory claimed by Australia. Established in 1954, Mawson is Australia's oldest Antarctic station and the oldest continuously inhabited Antarctic station south of the Antarctic Circle. Mawson was named in honour of the Australian Antarctic explorer Sir Douglas Mawson.
