Hannes Hertel
Hannes Hertel is a German botanist and taxonomist and was Director of the State Herbarium in Munich, Germany 1992 - 2004. His specialist areas are the fungi and lichens. Early life and education Hannes Hertel was born in 1939. His doctorate was awarded in 1967 for work on members of the lichen genus ''Lecidea'' that thrive on lime rich rocks and sites. This was undertaken under the guidance of Josef Poelt. Career He was appointed to an academic post at University of Berlin in 1972 but in 1973 he moved to Munich to take up the post of curator at the State Herbarium in Munich. He became the provisional director from 1985 to 1992 and was then confirmed as Director and remained until his retirement in 2004. His specialist area was the taxonomy of lichens, and especially the genus ''Lecidea'' that he had first studied for his doctorate. He and students that he supervised brought order and a critical review of the 1000 accepted and 4000 published names within the genus in the early 1 ...

Baeomycetales Genera
The Baeomycetales are an order of mostly lichen-forming fungi in the subclass Ostropomycetidae, in the class Lecanoromycetes. It contains 8 families, 33 genera and about 170 species. As a result of molecular phylogenetics research published in the late 2010s, several orders were folded into the Baeomycetales, resulting in a substantial increase in the number of taxa. Taxonomy The family Baeomycetaceae was originally proposed by Barthélemy Charles Joseph Dumortier in 1829 (under the spelling ''Baeomyceae''); he included two genera, ''Baeomyces'' and ''Calicium''. Baeomycetaceae was initially classified in the Lecanorales, and Baeomycetaceae and Cladoniaceae were thought to be closely related, sharing a phylogenetic origin in Lecideaceae. It was transferred to the order Helotiales based on the structure of its ascus, which is similar to those in genus ''Leotia''. However, the Helotiales consists of mostly non-lichenised fungi. The first DNA studies conducted with ''Baeomyce ...

Trapeliopsis Steppica
''Trapeliopsis steppica'' is a species of squamulose lichen in the family Trapeliaceae. It is found in the western United States, where it grows on soil in grassland and in shrub–steppe. Taxonomy The lichen was species description, formally described as a new species in 2003 by Bruce McCune and Francisco Camacho. The type (biology), type specimen was collected from Horse Heaven Hills in Benton County, Washington. Here it was found growing on soil in a bunchgrass (bluebunch wheatgrass, ''Pseudoroegneria spicata'') steppe. This habitat is alluded to in its botanical name, specific epithet, ''steppica''. Description ''Trapeliopsis steppica'' has a squamulose (scaly) thallus that is light- to medium-gray in color. The individuals squamules comprising the thallus are rounded to elongated, 0.15–0.50 mm thick and 0.5–1.5 mm long. Soredia are usually present on the thallus surface; they are dark gray to greenish-black to black, organized into regions of rounded soralia. ...
