Transylvania State Philharmonic Orchestra
The Transylvania State Philharmonic Orchestra of Cluj-Napoca ( ro, Filarmonica de Stat Transilvania) has grown to be a valuable institution of music, having a sustained presence in the Romanian and European cultural space. History As an artistic institution dedicated exclusively to concert activities, The Cluj-Napoca Philharmonic was founded through an official decree of Romania’s Council of Ministers, in the autumn of 1955, carrying the name ''"The Transylvania State Philharmonic Cluj-Napoca"''. At that time, the symphonic orchestra had 75 musicians and the ensemble of traditional music had 20 members. Under the supervision of Maestro Wilhelm Demian, the members of the new institution were selected. Maestro Antonin Ciolan was appointed principal conductor of the symphonic ensemble. The first concert took place on December 4, 1955. Conducting is the art of directing a musical performance, such as an orchestral or choral concert. Cluj-Napoca National Theatre
The Lucian Blaga National Theatre (Romanian: Teatrul Național ''Lucian Blaga'') in Cluj-Napoca, Romania is one of the most prestigious theatrical institutions in Romania. The theatre shares the same building with the Romanian Opera. Sigismund Toduță
Sigismund Toduță (Simeria, 17 May 1908 – Cluj-Napoca, 3 July 1991) was a Romanian composer, musicologist, and professor. Biography Toduță graduated from the Conservatory of Music and Dramatic Art in Cluj in 1936. His instructors included Ecaterina Fotino-Negru (piano) and Marțian Negrea (composition). Between 1936 and 1938, he continued his music studies in Rome, Italy, at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia with Ildebrando Pizetti (composition) and Alfredo Casella (piano). In 1938, he obtained a PhD in musicology at the Pontifical Institute for Sacred Music. He then became a music teacher at the Saint Vasile High School in Blaj until 1943. Between 1945 and 1949, Toduță was artistic director for the "Ardealul" Philharmonic in Cluj. He then worked as a theory and solfege professor at the G. Dima Conservatory. Academic College (Cluj-Napoca)
The Academic College ( ro, Colegiul Academic) is an Art Deco building in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, belonging to Babeș-Bolyai University and located on M. Kogălniceanu Street. History Soon after the 1918 union of Transylvania with Romania and the subsequent establishment of a Romanian-language university in Cluj, the idea of a building for use by teaching staff came into being. The planned site were the land and building occupied by the old Hungarian theatre, which was in an advanced state of degradation and had come under the university's ownership. In 1926, upon the suggestion of Emil Racoviță, the university senate discussed the matter, hiring an architect who drew up plans and a cost estimate. With total expenditures coming to some 24 million lei, beyond the university's possibilities at the time, the project was temporarily dropped.
