Traffic (Estonian Band)
Traffic is an Estonian band from Tallinn, Estonia, most notable for being in Eurolaul 2008, Eesti Laul 2009, Eesti Laul 2012, Eesti Laul 2014, Eesti Laul 2020 and Eesti Laul 2022. They also have several hits in Estonia like Sekundiga, which reached more than 5 million views on Youtube, Für Elise or Üks kord veel, both Eesti Laul songs. Beginning The founding members of the band, singer Silver Laas and guitarist Stig Rästa (previously of the band Slobodan River) came together in 2006. Through personal connections they found other band members: bass guitarist Tõnis Kivisild, drummer Reigo Ahven, and guitarist Karl Kanter. Kanter and Ahven left the band shortly after and were replaced with guitarist Robert Vaigla (previously of the band Slide-Fifty) and drummer Ivo Priilinn. Rästa writes most of the band's music, while the lyrics are written by different authors. The recorded history of music in Estonia dates back as far as the 12th century. History The earliest mentioning of Estonian singing and dancing dates back to Saxo Grammaticus' ''Gesta Danorum'' (c. 1179). Estonia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin, Italy, with "Hope" performed by Stefan. The Estonian broadcaster (ERR) organised the national final ''2022'' in order to select the Estonian entry for the contest. The national final consisted of seven shows: four quarter-finals, two semi-finals and a final. Ten songs competed in each quarter-final and semi-final and five qualified from each show as determined by a jury panel and public vote. In the final, the winner was selected over two rounds of voting, the first involving both a jury and the public, and the second and ultimate entirely decided by the public. Estonia was drawn to compete in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 12 May 2022. Performing during the show in position 12, "Hope" was announced among the top 10 entries of the second semi-final and hence qualified to compete in the final. Estonia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with the song "Rändajad" written by Sven Lõhmus. The song was performed by the group Urban Symphony. The Estonian broadcaster Eesti Rahvusringhääling (ERR) organised the national final ''Eesti Laul 2009'' in order to select the Estonian entry for the 2009 contest in Moscow, Russia. Urban Symphony was an Estonian music group. It represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with the song "Rändajad", finishing in 6th place with 129 points. In doing this, they achieved Estonia's best placement since 2002. History In autumn 2007, Sandra Nurmsalu took part in the singing talent show called ''2 takti ette'', biennially held by the Eesti Televisioon and broadcast nationwide. In a week of the contest, the contestants were tasked to form bands each on their own and each to produce a performance with it. Nurmsalu had studied the violin for two years in the Georg Ots Music School and had previously arranged the song "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica for a string set of the school.
