Franco Purini
Franco Purini, born as Francesco Purini (Isola del Liri, 9 November 1941), is an Italian architect, essayist, and university professor. He has designed many buildings, including the Torre Eurosky in Rome. He studied architecture in Rome with , earning his degree in 1971, spending his free time in the company of Franco Libertucci, Achille Perilli, and Lorenzo Taiuti. After his first work experience with and Vittorio Gregotti, starting in 1969 mainly in Florence and Cosenza Universities, he joined the workshop "" and after a brief period of teaching in Reggio Calabria and Rome he became a professor at the IUAV, University of Architecture in Venice. From 2003, he has taught at the La Sapienza University in Rome. For his accomplishments in his field, as an architect and theoretician, he was elected Accademico Corrispondente in the Academy of Arts and Drawings of Florence. EUR is a residential and business district in Rome, Italy, part of the Municipio IX. The area was originally chosen in the 1930s as the site for the 1942 World's Fair which Benito Mussolini planned to open to celebrate twenty years of Fascism, the letters EUR standing for Esposizione Universale Roma ("Universal Exposition Rome"). The project was originally called ''E42'' after the year in which the exhibition was to be held. EUR was also designed to direct the expansion of the city towards the south-west and the sea, and to be a new city centre for Rome. The planned exhibition never took place due to World War II. The Torre delle Milizie ("Tower of the Militia") is a fortified tower in Rome, Italy, located between Trajan's Market in the Imperial fora to the southwest and the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas, or Angelicum, to the east. History It gained the popular nickname of "Nero's Tower" from a tradition that it originated as an ancient Roman construction from which Emperor Nero watched the Great Fire of Rome – this is derived from the classical account that he watched from a tower in the Gardens of Maecenas, though more trustworthy accounts place him out of town, at Antium at the time.
