Tony Sbalbi
Tony Sbalbi AKA "Tony the tiger" (born 4 September 1969) is a French ski mountaineer and non-commissioned officer of the ''chasseurs alpins'' corps. Sbalbi was born in Aix-en-Provence. He attended the ''Lycée Jean Raynouard'' in Brignoles. At the age of 18 years he joined the army, where he became instructor at the École militaire de haute montagne (EMHM) in Chamonix. In 1989 he participated in his first ski mountaineering race, and has been member of the French national team since 2002. Laurent Fabre
Laurent Fabre (1968 - August 22, 2012) was a French ski mountaineer, high mountain guide and non-commissioned officer of the Chasseurs Alpins corps. He served at the 93rd Mountain Artillery Regiment and was married to the ski mountaineer Valentine Fabre. He was killed in a training accident on the Mont Blanc massif while serving as an instructor at the High Mountain Military School. 2010 World Championship Of Ski Mountaineering
The 2010 World Championship of Ski Mountaineering ( ca, Campionats del Món d’Esquí de Muntanya 2010) was the first World Championship of Ski Mountaineering sanctioned by the International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF), successor organization of the International Council for Ski Mountaineering Competitions (ISMC). The competition was held in the skiing area of Gran Valira in the Pyrenees, Andorra, from March 1 to March 6, 2010. Nicolas Bonnet
Nicolas Bonnet (born 6 November 1984) is a French ski mountaineer, runner, mountain guide and coach of the national team. Bonnet was born in Briançon. He started ski mountaineering in 1998 and competed first in 2002. He holds several national titles in different age classes. In 2006, he was also 2006 "junior" class World champion of vertical race, and placed 1st in the "junior" class at the Patrouille des Glaciers as well as at the short distance race of the Pierra Menta. On 12 April 2007 he broke his own course record on the Pelvoux course with a total time of 3 hours 18 minutes. Vertical Race
A Vertical Race is a special kind of ski mountaineering without the typical downhill skiing after ascending. At the mountain running and climbing passages the runners have to carry their skis in their backpacks. Vertical Races for women and men are part of all international ski mountaineering competitions of the International Council for Ski Mountaineering Competitions (ISMC) as well as at many national competitions.
