Tom Black (cricketer)
Thomas MacMillan Black (born 7 February 1956) is a Scottish former first-class cricketer and educator. Black was born at Greenock in February 1956. He was educated at the Ardrossan Academy, before going up to Jordanhill College. A club cricketer for Greenock Cricket Club, he made his debut for Scotland in a first-class cricket match against Ireland at Dublin in 1979. Batting twice in the match, he was dismissed in the Scotland first innings for 31 runs by Dermott Monteith, while in their second innings he was dismissed for 57 runs by Michael Halliday, the highest score of the innings. The following year he made his debut in List A one-day cricket against Nottinghamshire in the 1980 Benson & Hedges Cup, with Black making a further appearance in the tournament against Lancashire. Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club
Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Nottinghamshire. The club's limited overs team is called the Notts Outlaws. The county club was founded in 1841, although teams had played first-class cricket under the Nottinghamshire name since 1835. Wellington Academy
Wellington Academy was a secondary school at Dempster Street in Greenock, Scotland serving the Eastern and Central areas of the town. In 2007 it merged with Greenock High School to form Inverclyde Academy. The 'Welly' was opened in August 1990, as a merger between Grovepark and Cowdeknowes High Schools. The school closed at the end of the 2007 summer term, with a roll of only around 450 pupils. The last head boy and head girl were Jonathan Glass and Mhairi Lyle. The last head teacher was Mr Billy Paul. The site the school once stood on has now been cleared, although the fencing and walls surrounding the school (from the days when the Mount School stood on the site) are retained. The site is proposed to be used for the location of the new Greenock Health Centre building. The Greenock Telegraph is a local daily newspaper serving Inverclyde (the council area containing the towns of Gourock, Greenock and Port Glasgow), Scotland. Founded in 1857, it was the first halfpenny daily newspaper in Britain. It was for a time Greenock Telegraph and Clyde Shipping Gazette, owing to the massive amount of maritime traffic moving in and out of Greenock's harbours. This information is still published, but only as a column entry. Originally based in Charles Street, Greenock, the printing works were bombed during the Greenock Blitz in May 1941. However the printers worked on to produce emergency editions, despite sustaining multiple cuts from the shattered glass lodged in the presses.
