Tokyo Pro Market
The Tokyo Pro Market is one of the Tokyo Stock Exchange's sections or markets, intended for alternative investment. It is the only "Specified Exchange Financial Product Market" () in Japan, and is so-called as it is to be a "market for professional investors". There are two markets: the Tokyo Pro Market, a stock market, and the Tokyo Pro-Bond Market, a bond market. It was originally established on June 1, 2009, as the Tokyo AIM, jointly funded by the Tokyo Stock Exchange and the London Stock Exchange (LSE), which had operated the Alternative Investment Market (AIM), allowing for more flexible investment. The joint venture of TSE and LSE was dissolved in March 2012, making it a wholly owned subsidiary of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. In July 2012, it became a section or market inside the Tokyo Stock Exchange, like its First and Second Sections, and Mothers (Tokyo Stock Exchange), Mothers, and was renamed to the Tokyo Pro Market. The , abbreviated as Tosho () or TSE/TYO, is a stock exchange located in Tokyo, Japan. It is the third largest stock exchange in the world by aggregate market capitalization of its listed companies, and the largest in Asia. It had 2,292 listed companies with a combined market capitalization of US$5.67 trillion as of February 2019. Alternative Investment Market
AIM (formerly the Alternative Investment Market) is a sub-market of the London Stock Exchange that was launched on 19 June 1995 as a replacement to the previous Unlisted Securities Market (USM) that had been in operation since 1980. It allows companies that are smaller, less-developed, or want/need a more flexible approach to governance to float shares with a more flexible regulatory system than is applicable on the main market. Mothers () is one of Tokyo Stock Exchange's sections or markets, where the shares of startup companies are listed and traded. Its name is said to come from an acronym of "Market of the high-growth and emerging stocks". TSE also has JASDAQ for a similar purpose but with different requirements, which it acquired when it merged with Osaka Stock Exchange to form Japan Exchange Group in 2013. History Mothers was established in November 1999 in Tokyo Stock Exchange, as an ante to NASDAQ Japan of Osaka Stock Exchange. In December 1999, it had its start by trading shares of two emerging companies, one of which is already delisted.
