Toivo Maimets (born 29 December 1957 in Tartu) is an Estonian biologist and cell biology professor at the University of Tartu. From 2003 to 2005 he was the Minister of Education of Estonia, representing the Res Publica Party. Education Maimets studied at the Miina Härma Gymnasium and the Tartu Tamme Gymnasium. He graduated in 1975. After graduating from high school he went to study biology at the University of Tartu, graduating in 1980. Toivo Aarne Loukola (2 October 1902 – 10 January 1984) was a Finnish male runner, winner of the 3000 metres steeplechase at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. Loukola set an unofficial world record in the steeplechase just a month before the Olympics. Toivo Hjalmar Långström (1889, Helsinki - 1983) was a Finnish politician and trade union activist. He was the last leader of Socialist Workers' Party of Finland from May to August 1923 before the party was banned and its leadership imprisoned. Långström was in jail at the Tammisaari prison camp for political reasons between 1930 and 1934 and during Finland's 1941-1944 Continuation War against the Soviet Union, Långström was also active in the Communist Party of Finland and (later) the Finnish People's Democratic League. Toivo Timoteus Kuula (7 July 1883 – 18 May 1918) was a Finnish composer and conductor of the late-Romantic and early-modern periods, who emerged in the wake of Jean Sibelius, under whom he studied privately from 1906 to 1908. Toivo Edvard Kujala (18 November 1894, Sippola – 7 April 1959) was a Finnish electrician and politician. In 1918 he was imprisoned for having sided with the Reds during the Finnish Civil War. In the 1920s he became an organiser for the then illegal Communist Party of Finland (SKP), which led to a second prison sentence in 1931. He was imprisoned for a third time during World War II and freed in 1944 after the Communist Party was legalised as a result of the Moscow Armistice of 19 September 1944. Toivo Koljonen
Toivo Harald "Kirves" Koljonen (12 December 1912 – 21 October 1943) was a Finnish Axe murder, axe murderer and the last Finn executed for a civilian crime. He was executed by firing squad for a sextuple murder. Koljonen was born 1912 in Lahti, Finland. He had been sentenced to prison and incarcerated at Riihimäki Prison, from which he was moved to Huittinen auxiliary prison. He escaped from prison in 1943 and attempted to hide from the authorities. On 17 March 1943, he found a nearby farmhouse where five family members lived – a mother, two grandparents, and two children. Two additional family members, the father and the eldest son, had been conscription, conscripted into the army and, consequently, were not present at the time. Toivo Mikael Kivimäki (5 June 1886 – 6 May 1968), ( J.D.), was a Finnish politician of the National Progressive Party who served as the head of the department of civil law at Helsinki University 1931–1956, Prime Minister of Finland 1932–1936, and Finland's Envoy to Berlin 1940–1944.
