To Retire (Το Ρετιρέ; English: The Penthouse) was a very popular Greek sitcom that aired from 1990 to 1992 on the Greek channel Mega. It was written and directed by Yiannis Dalianidis. Characters The main character is Katerina Sofianou, played by Katerina Gioulaki. Katerina is a divorced, nervous lady that lives with her mother Sofia and her niece Eirini. She wants to get married again but her family does not like the groom. Sitcom
A sitcom, a portmanteau of situation comedy, or situational comedy, is a genre of comedy centered on a fixed set of characters who mostly carry over from episode to episode. Sitcoms can be contrasted with sketch comedy, where a troupe may use new characters in each sketch, and stand-up comedy, where a comedian tells jokes and stories to an audience. Sitcoms originated in radio, but today are found mostly on television as one of its dominant narrative forms. A situation comedy television program may be recorded in front of a studio audience, depending on the program's production format. The effect of a live studio audience can be imitated or enhanced by the use of a laugh track. Fivos (character)
Fivos Constantinou ( el, Φοίβος Κωνσταντίνου; born May 27, 1981) is a Cyprus Native and holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Computer Science from MIT. Fivos is well known for his accomplishments as a distance runner on the track as well as in Cross Country. He has competed for the MIT Cross Country and Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Teams. In his senior year he was the Cross Country team captain and was voted as the team's MVP by the team members. Prior to his collegiate career Fivos competed for his local track club in Cyprus, G.S.Z., and was a 4 time National champion. He won National titles in 800m and 1500m races as well as 2 Cross Country titles. In Greek mythology, Nephele (; Ancient Greek: Νεφέλη from νέφος ''nephos'' "cloud"; Latinized to ''Nubes'') was a cloud nymph who figured prominently in the story of Phrixus and Helle. Mythology Greek myth has it that Nephele is the cloud whom Zeus created in the image of Hera to trick Ixion to test his integrity after displaying his lust for Hera during a feast as a guest of Zeus. Ixion's restraint failed him, and he assaulted Nephele, eventually fathering the Centaurs (through Imbros or CentaurosApollodorus, Epitome 1.20). Nephele married Athamas, and had twins, a son, Phrixus, and a daughter, Helle. Elda Panopoulou ( el, Έλντα Πανοπούλου) is a Greek comedian, best known for her role as "Haroula Peponaki" in the Greek sitcom ''To Retire'' (The Penthouse). Early life Panopoulou was born in Athens in the early 1960s. Her two parents were teachers; they owned their own school. Career Her first appearance was in a Greek romance series, titled "Alithines Istories", alongside Giorgos Kimoulis and Martha Karagianni in 1984. The ratings were low and after 6 episodes it was cancelled. In 1991 she did her break through as the nervous but caring operator in the Greek sitcom To Retire. After a couple more comedy sitcoms, ''Panopoulou'' started to present her own show in the public television.
