Tibet University For Nationalities
Xizang Minzu University (; ), also known as Tibet University for Nationalities, is a Chinese university established to educate ethnic minorities, specifically Tibetans. It is under the jurisdiction of Tibet Autonomous Region, but is physically located in the city of Xianyang in Shaanxi province, near the provincial capital Xi'an. History Xizang Minzu University was established in 1958 as Tibet Public School. It was the first university established by the government of Tibet Autonomous Region. The university adopted its current name in 1965. Overview The university has over 9,400 full-time students, more than half of whom are members of ethnic minorities including Tibetans. Tibetan People
The Tibetan people (; ) are an East Asian ethnic group native to Tibet. Their current population is estimated to be around 6.7 million. In addition to the majority living in Tibet Autonomous Region of China, significant numbers of Tibetans live in the Chinese provinces of Gansu, Qinghai, Sichuan, and Yunnan, as well as in India, Nepal, and Bhutan. Tibetan languages belong to the Tibeto-Burman language group. Basang
Basang or Pasang (; ; born March 1937) is a retired Tibetan politician of the People's Republic of China. A former slave, she joined the People's Liberation Army and rose to prominence during the Cultural Revolution, when she became Vice-Chairwoman of the Revolutionary Committee of the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR). She was a member of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party for 14 years and was the only woman leader in the TAR government from 1979 to 2002. Biography Basang was born in March 1937 in Gongkar, Lhokha, Tibet. Her parents were slaves, and after her mother died in 1947, Basang worked as a slave for nine years for the landlord of Chika. National Chengchi University () is a public research university in Taipei. The university is also considered as the earliest public service training facility of the Republic of China. First established in Nanjing in 1927, the university was subsequently relocated to Taipei in 1954. It is considered to be one of the most prestigious and prominent universities in Taiwan. Losang Jamcan, also spelled Losang Gyaltsen (; ; born July 1957), is a Chinese politician of Tibetan ethnicity. He is the President of Tibet Autonomous Region People's Congress Standing Committee, and former Chairman (governor) of Tibet Autonomous Region and Mayor of Tibetan capital Lhasa. Wu Yingjie (; born December 1956) is a Chinese politician based in Tibet who formerly served as Communist Party Secretary of the Tibet Autonomous Region, the top official in Tibet. Originally from Shandong province, Wu grew up in Tibet and worked for his entire career in the region.
