Thundelarra
Thundelarra is a conservation reserve that was previously run as a pastoral lease in Western Australia, located south east of Yalgoo and north of Dalwallinu in the Murchison region. Description It was a traditional sheep station until having the lease transferred to a nature conservation estate in 2006. It is recognised as an important parcel of land that links the western and eastern end of other conservation estates, also once pastoral leases, which were purchased since 1995. The area lies in the Yalgoo IBRA region and is characterised by open mulga woodlands and sandy scrubland. The area is rich in ephemerals and is noted for its rich wildflower displays in spring. Yalgoo, Western Australia
Yalgoo is a town in the Mid-west region, north-north-east of Perth, Western Australia and east-north-east of Mullewa. Yalgoo is in the local government area of the Shire of Yalgoo. Before it was settled as a town the Yalgoo area was used as grazing land for European settlers including the Morrissey and Broad families. Flocks of sheep were herded onto the rich pastures during the wet growing season and driven back to coastal properties for shearing before summer. Over time the graziers saw the value in the Yalgoo land and began to establish the first sheep stations. History Gold was discovered in the area in the early 1890s, and by 1895 there were 120 men working the diggings and buildings being erected. The goldfield warden asked for a townsite to be surveyed and gazetted, and following survey the townsite of Yalgu was gazetted in January 1896. The Shire of Yalgoo is a local government area in the Mid West region of Western Australia, about north of the state capital, Perth. The Shire covers an area of , and its seat of government is the town of Yalgoo. History The original Yalgoo Road District was gazetted on 3 July 1896, and abolished and divided between the Mount Magnet Road District and Upper Irwin Road District on 11 August 1911. The Shire of Yalgoo originates from the establishment of the second Yalgoo Road District on 19 April 1912, which was formed out of parts of the Mount Magnet, Upper Irwin and Murchison road boards. ''Duma florulenta'' ( synonym ''Muehlenbeckia florulenta''), commonly known as tangled lignum or often simply lignum, is a plant native to inland Australia. It is associated with wetland habitats, especially those in arid and semiarid regions subject to cycles of intermittent flooding and drying out. The Wiradjuri name for the plant is gweeargal, and the Walmajarri name is ''Kirinykiriny'', or ''Kurinykuriny''. Description Lignum is a perennial, monoecious shrub, growing to 2.5 m in height, with its multitude of thin, intertwined and tangled branches and branchlets forming dense thickets to the exclusion of other species. Its thin, narrow leaves are 15–70 mm long and 2–10 mm wide. The grey-green stems often end in a sharp point. Shearing Shed
Shearing sheds (or wool sheds) are large sheds located on sheep stations to accommodate large scale sheep shearing activities. In countries where large numbers of sheep are kept for wool, sometimes many thousands in a flock, shearing sheds are vital to house the necessary shearing equipment, and to ensure that the shearers and /or crutchers have a ready supply of dry, empty sheep. The shed also provides space where the wool is classed and pressed into approved wool packs and stored to await transport to market. Location of the shed is important as the site needs to be well drained and in an area reasonably close to most of the flock. It is helpful and will save a lot of money if the shed is located near to the electricity supply. At least some yards will be needed to facilitate shedding and count-outs. Suicide is the act of intentionally causing one's own death.
