Thukha ( my, သုခ, ; 14 January 1910 – 7 December 2005) was a six-time Burmese Academy Award winning film director, writer, song writer, script writer, film actor and film producer. His film production company, Thukha Films Company, won Best Picture Award for twice. Thukha directed 33 films and is considered the most successful Burmese film director. Biography Born Thein Maung in the Irrawaddy delta in British Burma, Thukha began writing poems as a middle school student. He became familiar with classical Burmese music at an early age thanks to his grandfather, a harpist. Thukha studied at Kyaiklat and Pyapon National Schools. Thukha began his writing career at age 19 with a short fiction work "Zabe Pwint" ("Jasmine Petal") in ''Kawi Myetmhan'' magazine under the pen name Sein Thein Dan. ''Bawa Thanthayar'' ( my, ဘဝသံသရာ; ) is a 1956 Burmese black-and-white drama film, directed by Thukha starring Zeya, May Thit, Thukha and Aye Kyu. It is one of the most famous films in the history of Burmese cinema and was only released at the end of the year, but was the highest grossing film of 1956. Free Funeral Service Society
The Free Funeral Service Society (Yangon) ( my, နာရေးကူညီမှုအသင်း, abbreviated FFSS), a civil society organisation based on Yangon, Myanmar, founded by Burmese film director Thukha, provides free funeral services to people from any religion, race and socioeconomic status at no cost in Yangon Region. It was founded on 1 January 2001 by film director Thukha and is headed by many prominent persons in the entertainment industry, including actor Kyaw Thu. FFSS has helped fund around 200,000 funerals since it first started. In 2006, FFSS opened a free health care clinic called Thukha Clinic. In 2009, its free clinic was ordered by a local court to be closed, after being forcibly relocated from Thingangyun Township to North Dagon Township in Yangon's outlying suburbs. The Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards are presented annually to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the Burmese Film Industry of Myanmar. The awards ceremony has been held annually since 1952. Each winner is presented with a golden statue and in recent years also a cash prize. Alinkar Kyawswar
Alinkar Kyawswa ( my, အလင်္ကာကျော်စွာ) is the highest national honor of recognition of an individual for their artistic skills by the government of Myanmar. From 1949 to 2022, there were about 57 recipients of this award in Myanmar. There are only over 20 recipients from post-independence parliamentary governments to post-2011 Union governments. In 2022, under the caretaker government formed by the Tatmadaw, 25 people were awarded in March and 8 people were awarded in April. This is the first time in history that many people have been awarded at the same time.
