Avantika Bawa
Avantika Bawa (born 1973) is an Indian American artist, curator, and professor of art. Bawa is a multidisciplinary artist who works primarily in site-specific installation, video, printmaking, and drawing. She is the recipient of the 2018 Crow's Shadow Institute of the Arts Golden Spot Residency Award, the Hallie Ford Fellowship in the Visual Arts, and the Oregon Arts Commission Joan Shipley Award. Education Bawa has an MFA in painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a BFA from the Maharaja Sayajirao University. Career Bawa is an associate professor of art at Washington State University Vancouver, and serves on the board of the Oregon Arts Commission. Gurmeet Bawa
Gurmeet Bawa (18 February 1944 – 21 November 2021) was an Indian Punjabi language folk singer. She was known as ''Lambi hek di malika'' () for her long ''hek'' () that she could hold for about 45 seconds. She was the first Punjabi female singer to sing on Indian public service broadcaster, Doordarshan. She was awarded Padma Bhushan by Indian government in 2022. Early life Gurmeet Bawa was born as Gurmeet Kaur in 1944, to father S. Uttam Singh and mother Ram Kaur, in the village of Kothe in British Punjab. The village is now a part of Gurdaspur district of Indian Punjab. Her mother died when she was two years old. Hemi Bawa
Hemi Bawa (born 1948) is an Indian painter and sculptor. Her works include acrylic and glass paintings and sculptures made of cast glass, fibre glass and copper-fired glass. Bawa was born in Delhi and did not have any formal training when she started painting in 1962. Later, she studied Scandinavian glassmaking techniques and started working on that medium and also in combination with metal, wood and acrylic. In 1996, Coca-Cola commissioned her for a sculpture, to be displayed during the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and the eight-foot high work is now on display at the Coca-Cola Museum in the city. Manjit Bawa (1941 – 29 December 2008), born in Dhuri, Punjab, India, was an Indian painter. Biography Bawa was born in 1941 in Dhuri, British India. His elder brothers encouraged him to pursue art. He studied fine arts at the College of Art, New Delhi between 1958 and 1963, where his professors included Somnath Hore, Rakesh Mehra, Dhanaraj Bhagat and B.C. Sanyal. Robin N. Bawa (born March 26, 1966) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who spent parts of four seasons in the National Hockey League between 1989 and 1994. Playing career Bawa spent five productive seasons of junior hockey in the WHL with the Kamloops Blazers, but was passed over in the NHL Entry Draft. Finally, after a 57-goal performance in the 1986–87 season, Bawa earned a pro contract from the Washington Capitals. Bawa turned pro the following season, spending the year in the IHL with the Fort Wayne Komets. Mangal Sen (1915–1972) was a Punjabi writer, poet and essayist in East Punjab, India. He wrote first under the name Balwant Rai, but is most famous for his poetry under his pen name Bawa Balwant.
