Thomas Hörl
Thomas Hörl (born 20 August 1981) is an Austrian former ski jumper who competed from 1997 to 2003. Career After winning the Alpen Cup in 1996 at the age of fifteen, together with medalling in junior level competitions, Hörl started his senior level World Cup career in Bischofshofen on 8 January 2000. At the end of that season, on 16 March 2000 in Planica, he set a world record jump of . Hörl retired from ski jumping after the 2003 Continental Cup season. Planica
Planica () is an Alpine valley in northwestern Slovenia, extending south from the border village of Rateče, not far from another well-known ski resort, Kranjska Gora. Further south, the valley extends into the Tamar Valley, a popular hiking destination in Triglav National Park. Planica is famous for ski jumping. The first ski jumping hill was constructed before 1930 at the slope of Mount Ponca. In 1933, Ivan Rožman constructed a larger hill, known as the Bloudek Giant (''Bloudkova velikanka'') after Stanko Bloudek, which later gave rise to ski flying. The venue was completed in 1934. The first ski jump over in history was achieved at the hill in 1936 by Sepp Bradl. At the time, it was the biggest jumping hill in the world. Andreas "Andi" Goldberger (born 29 November 1972) is an Austrian former ski jumper. He became the first man in history to jump over 200 metres in 1994, although he didn't manage to stand. Career He won the World Cup overall titles three times (1993, 1995, 1996), the Four Hills Tournament twice (1992/93, 1994/95), with multiple medals in the Nordic World Championships and Winter Olympics. Despite his success at ski jumping, Goldberger preferred ski flying—a more extreme version of normal ski jumping, in which distances are far greater. Tommy Ingebrigtsen
Tommy Ingebrigtsen (born 8 August 1977) is a Norwegian former ski jumper who competed from 1993 to 2007, representing Byåsen IL in Trondheim. He won the large hill competition at the 1995 Nordic World Ski Championships in Thunder Bay, at the age of seventeen. Ingebrigtsen also competed in two Winter Olympics, earning a bronze in the team large hill event at Turin in 2006. He twice held the world distance record, both set in Planica, with a jump of 219.5 metres on 20 March 1999 and 231 m on 20 March 2005. The FIS Ski Jumping Continental Cup is a series of ski jumping competitions arranged yearly by the International Ski Federation. It is considered the second level of international ski jumping, ranking below the World Cup and not counting Grand Prix which world top class summer competition. Athletes competing in the Continental Cup are usually juniors and jumpers fighting for a spot on their nation's World Cup team. Some jumpers alternate between the World Cup and the Continental Cup and therefore, the winner of the Continental Cup is not necessarily the best jumper.
