Thomas Gafford
Thomas Edward Gafford (born January 29, 1983) is a former American football long snapper. He was signed by the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2006. He played college football at Houston. Gafford has also been a member of the Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs, Chicago Bears, Oakland Raiders, Denver Broncos, and New Orleans Saints. Early years Gafford attended Clear Brook High School in Friendswood, Texas, and was president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and a letterman in football. As a senior, he was named both Most Valuable Player and Receiver of the Year for the Clear Brook High School football team. College career Gafford was a four-year letterman at the University of Houston and played in 47 games for the Cougars football team. He is a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Long Snapper
In American football, the long snapper (or deep snapper) is a center on special teams whose duty is to snap the football over a longer distance, typically around 15 yards during punts, and 7–8 yards during field goals and extra point attempts. Overview During field goal and point after touchdown attempts, the snap is received by the holder, typically 7–8 yards away. During punts, the snap is delivered to the punter from 13–15 yards away. Following a punt snap, the snapper often executes a blocking assignment and then must cover the kick by running downfield and attempting to stop the opposing team's punt returner from advancing the ball in the opposite direction. If the punt goes uncaught, it is the snapper's responsibility to make sure the ball does not enter the end zone or bounce backward resulting in loss of yards. 2005 NFL Draft
The 2005 NFL draft was the procedure by which National Football League teams selected amateur college football players. It is officially known as the NFL Annual Player Selection Meeting. The draft was held April 23–24, 2005. The league also held a supplemental draft that year, which was held after the regular draft but before the regular season. The draft took place at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City, and was televised for the 26th consecutive year on ESPN and ESPN2. It was the first to be held at the Javits Center after Madison Square Garden was utilized for previous drafts since 1995.
