Tanner Purdum
Tanner Gregory Purdum (born August 15, 1984) is a former American football long snapper who played seven seasons with the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). Purdum comes from Ava, Missouri. He was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2009. He played college football at Baker University#Athletics, Baker. Professional career Kansas City Chiefs On April 7, 2009, the Kansas City Chiefs signed Purdum with the intention of having him compete for the starting job of long snapper. On August 13, 2009, the Chiefs waived Purdum in favor of Thomas Gafford. New York Jets On February 5, 2010, the New York Jets signed Purdum to a three-year contract after incumbent long snapper James Dearth, who was an unrestricted free agent at the time, had a few snaps that were "off the mark" in the 2009 season. Long Snapper
In American football, the long snapper (or deep snapper) is a center on special teams whose duty is to snap the football over a longer distance, typically around 15 yards during punts, and 7–8 yards during field goals and extra point attempts. Overview During field goal and point after touchdown attempts, the snap is received by the holder, typically 7–8 yards away. During punts, the snap is delivered to the punter from 13–15 yards away. Following a punt snap, the snapper often executes a blocking assignment and then must cover the kick by running downfield and attempting to stop the opposing team's punt returner from advancing the ball in the opposite direction. If the punt goes uncaught, it is the snapper's responsibility to make sure the ball does not enter the end zone or bounce backward resulting in loss of yards. James Dearth
James Dearth (born January 22, 1976) is a former American football long snapper. Dearth, who attended Tarleton State University, was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the sixth round of the 1999 NFL Draft. He has also been a member of the New York Jets, Washington Redskins, San Diego Chargers and New England Patriots. Early years Dearth attended Scurry-Rosser High School in Scurry, Texas and was a student and a letterman in football. In football, he was a starter at both, quarterback and middle linebacker, and was an All-State honoree at both positions. Thomas Hennessy (born June 11, 1994) is an American football long snapper for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Duke. He has also been a member of the Indianapolis Colts. Early years Hennessy played high school football at Don Bosco Preparatory High School in Ramsey, New Jersey, where he was a three-year letterman. He helped the team to a three-year record of 35–0. The school also won three state championships and were named national champions by ''USA Today'' in 2009 and 2011.
