Theristai
''Theristai'' ( grc, Θερισταί, also known as ''Reapers'' or ''Harvesters''), is a lost satyr play by Attic playwright Euripides. It was initially performed at the Dionysia in Athens in 431 BCE along with the tragedies ''Medea'', '' Philoctetes'' and ''Dictys''. The tetralogy finished in 3rd place, behind tetralogies by Euphorion (Aeschylus' son), who won 1st prize, and Sophocles. ''Medea'' ( grc, Μήδεια, ''Mēdeia'') is an ancient Greek tragedy written by Euripides, based upon the myth of Jason and Medea and first produced in 431 BC. The plot centers on the actions of Medea, a former princess of the kingdom of Colchis, and the wife of Jason; she finds her position in the Greek world threatened as Jason leaves her for a Greek princess of Corinth. Medea takes vengeance on Jason by murdering his new wife as well as her own two sons, after which she escapes to Athens to start a new life. Euripides
Euripides (; grc, Εὐριπίδης, Eurīpídēs, ; ) was a tragedian of classical Athens. Along with Aeschylus and Sophocles, he is one of the three ancient Greek tragedians for whom any plays have survived in full. Some ancient scholars attributed ninety-five plays to him, but the '' Suda'' says it was ninety-two at most. It preserves theatrical elements of dialogue, actors speaking verse, a chorus that dances and sings, masks and costumes. Its relationship to tragedy is strong; satyr plays were written by tragedians, and satyr plays were performed in the Dionysian festival following the performance of a group of three tragedies. Philoctetes (Euripides)
''Philoctetes'' ( grc, Φιλοκτήτης) is a tragedy by the Athenian poet Euripides. It was probably first produced in 431 BCE at the Dionysia in a tetralogy that included the extant ''Medea'' and was awarded third prize. It is now lost except for a few fragments. Much of what we know of the plot is from the writings of Dio Chrysostom, who compared the Philoctetes plays of Aeschylus, Euripides and Sophocles and also paraphrased the beginning of Euripides' play. Fragments Less than 20 fragments of Euripides' ''Philoctetes'' survive, amounting to about 40 lines. We do know the broad outline of the plot from a comparison by Dio Chrysostom of Euripides' ''Philoctetes'' with Aeschylus' '' Philoctetes'' (probably 470s BCE) and Sophocles' '' Philoctetes'' (409 BCE). The Dionysia (, , ; Greek: Διονύσια) was a large festival in ancient Athens in honor of the god Dionysus, the central events of which were the theatrical performances of dramatic tragedies and, from 487 BC, comedies. Dictys ( grc, Δίκτυς, ''Díktus'') was a name attributed to four men in Greek mythology. * Dictys, a fisherman and brother of King Polydectes of Seriphos, both being the sons of Magnes and a Naiad, or of Peristhenes and Androthoe,Scholia on Apollonius Rhodius, 4.1091 or else of Poseidon and Cerebia. Euphorion (playwright)
Euphorion ( grc-gre, Εὐφορίων, ''Euphoríōn'') was the son of the Greek tragedian Aeschylus, and himself an author of tragedies.
