The Valiant Red Peony
is a 1968 Japanese yakuza film directed by Kōsaku Yamashita. It stars Junko Fuji. She landed the lead role for the first time in the film and The Valiant Red Peony was a big hit. The Valiant Red Peony is the first episode in the Valiant Red Peony aka Hibotan Bakuto film series. Oryū's father is a head of the Yano clan (yakuza boss), but is assassinated by someone. Oryū dissolves the Yano clan and she goes on a journey to find the person who killed her father. Kōsaku Yamashita
was a Japanese film director who specialized in directing Yakuza films. Yamashita was nicknamed '' Shōgun''. His son is director Tomohiko Yamashita. In 1952, He graduated from Kyoto University and joined Toei Film. He was working an office job, but three years later, he became an assistant director under Tomu Uchida and Kōzaburō Yoshimura. Yamashita made his directorial debut with ''Wakatono Senryu Hada'' in 1961. His representative works included '' The Valiant Red Peony series'' and ''Kyōdai Jingi'' (1966). Minoru Ōki
was a Japanese actor. His notable film appearances were ''Lone Wolf and Cub'' films, ''Stakeout'', and ''Not Forgotten''. Ōki started working as a shooting assistant at the Nikkatsu Tamagawa studio at the age of 16. In 1951, he made his film debut with ''Aa Seishun'' at Shin Saburi and Michiyo Kogure's recommendation. In the same year, he officially signed his contract with Shochiku film company and became an actor. In 1963, he left Shochiku and transferred to Toei. In Toei, he mainly appeared in yakuza films. In 2000, he won the best actor award at the Three Continents Film Festival for his role in ''Not Forgotten''. He died of pancreatic cancer in 2006. was a Japanese film director from Saitama Prefecture. was a Japanese film director and screenwriter. He was best known for making yakuza films at the Toei Company in 1960s. Biography Born in Hyōgo Prefecture, Kato was the nephew of the film director Sadao Yamanaka. He entered the Toho studio in 1937 and first began by working on documentaries. Nobuo Kaneko
was a Japanese actor. His wife was actress Yatsuko Tanami. He appeared in more than 200 films between 1950 and 1993. Career Kaneko was a versatile character actor, playing roles ranging from comedic buffoons to hardened yakuza bosses. He is especially known for his role as Yoshio Yamamori in the ''Battles Without Honor and Humanity'' series. Kaneko started his acting career at the Bungakuza theater troupe in 1946. Shingo Yamashiro
was a Japanese television and film actor. Biography Yamashiro, who was originally from Kyoto, Japan, was born , but used Shingo Yamashiro as his stage name. He made his film acting debut in 1957. Yamashiro starred in the television series '' Hakuba Dōji'' ("White Horse Rider"), beginning in 1960. During the 1970s, Yamashiro appeared in several yakuza films such as the ''Battles Without Honor and Humanity'' series and '' Gambling Den Heist'' (1975). Yamashiro also directed occasionally, helming such films in Nikkatsu's ''Roman porno'' series as '' Female Cats'' (1983) and ''Gemini Woman'' (1984). He starred in several variety shows later in his career. Later years Yamashiro was admitted to a nursing home in Machida, western Tokyo, for treatment of diabetes. He died of pneumonia at said nursing home on August 12, 2009, at the age of 70.
