The Toll Of The Sea
''The Toll of the Sea'' is a 1922 American silent drama film directed by Chester M. Franklin, produced by the Technicolor Motion Picture Corporation, released by Metro Pictures, and featuring Anna May Wong in her first leading role. The film was written by Frances Marion and directed by Chester M. Franklin (brother of director Sidney Franklin), with the lead roles played by Wong and Kenneth Harlan. The plot was a variation of the '' Madama Butterfly'' story, set in China instead of Japan. The film was the second Technicolor feature (after 1917's ''The Gulf Between''), the first color feature made in Hollywood, and the first Technicolor color feature anywhere that did not require a special projector to be used for screenings. The film premiered on November 26, 1922, at the Rialto Theatre in New York City, and went into general release on January 22, 1923. Chester Franklin
Chester Mortimer Franklin (September 1, 1889 – March 12, 1954) was an American film director and actor active mainly in the silent era. Born in San Francisco, he was the brother of Sidney A. Franklin. In the late 1910s, he co-directed with his brother Sidney several films with all-children casts for William Fox. He directed two silent horror films, the 1924 ''Behind the Curtain'' (a.k.a. ''Souls Which Pass in the Night'') and the 1927 ''The Thirteenth Hour''. Priscilla Moran
Priscilla Moran (November 23, 1917 – November 11, 2006) was an American silent film actress. She was born in Sedalia, Missouri. She made her film debut in 1922, and retired from the silver screen in 1937 at the age of 20, having appeared in fourteen films. Personal life Moran was the daughter of Leo Anthony Moran, who was also an actor. After he died in Arizona in March 1926, Myrtle and John C. Ragland became her guardians: this caused a custody battle in which she was eventually given to her paternal aunt Margaret Moran Becker. Google Doodle
A Google Doodle is a special, temporary alteration of the logo on Google's homepages intended to commemorate holidays, events, achievements, and notable historical figures. The first Google Doodle honored the 1998 edition of the long-running annual Burning Man event in Black Rock City, Nevada, and was designed by co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin to notify users of their absence in case the servers crashed. Early Marketing employee Susan Wojcicki then spearheaded subsequent Doodles, including an alien landing on Google and additional custom logos for major holidays. Google Doodles were designed by an outside contractor until 2000, when Page and Brin asked public relations officer Dennis Hwang to design a logo for Bastille Day.
