Brian Moncrieff Lewis (3 June 1929 – 4 December 1978)Steve Holland Bear Alley, 3 June 2008 was a British science fiction illustrator, comics artist, and animator. In the 1950s, he illustrated covers for pulp magazines like ''New Worlds'', ''Science Fantasy'', and '' Science Fiction Adventures''. In the 1960s, he drew adventure comic strips for '' Tiger'', ''Boys' World'', ''Hurricane'', and ''Eagle''. He also used a more cartoony style to draw humor comic strips for '' Wham!'', '' Smash'', '' Cor!!'', and ''Buster''. In the 1970s, Lewis focused on comics adaptations of television and horror film properties. Biography Lewis served in the Royal Air Force, and became involved in science fiction fandom in the early 1950s. Fleetway And IPC Comics
Fleetway Publications was a magazine publishing company based in London. It was founded in 1959 when the Mirror Group acquired the Amalgamated Press, then based at Fleetway House, Farringdon Street, London. It was one of the companies that merged into the IPC group in 1963, and the Fleetway banner continued to be used until 1968 when all IPC's publications were reorganised into the unitary IPC Magazines. In 1987 IPC's comics line was sold to Robert Maxwell as Fleetway Publications. Egmont UK bought Fleetway from Maxwell in 1991, merging it with their own comics publishing operation, London Editions, to form Fleetway Editions, but the name "Fleetway" ceased to appear on their comics some time after 2002. The Lee–Enfield or Enfield is a bolt-action, magazine-fed repeating rifle that served as the main firearm of the military forces of the British Empire and Commonwealth during the first half of the 20th century, and was the British Army's standard rifle from its official adoption in 1895 until 1957. The WWI versions are often referred to as the "SMLE", which is short for the common "Short, Magazine, Lee–Enfield" variant. A redesign of the Lee–Metford (adopted by the British Army in 1888), the Lee–Enfield superseded the earlier Martini–Henry, Martini–Enfield, and Lee-Metford rifles. ''Tiger'' was a weekly British comic magazine published from 1954 to 1985, originally by Amalgamated Press (AP) and later by IPC/ Fleetway. Launched as ''Tiger – The Sport and Adventure Picture Story Weekly'', initially the publication predominantly featured sporting strips. Its most popular strip was '' Roy of the Rovers'', a football-based strip recounting the life of Roy Race and the team he played for, Melchester Rovers. This strip proved so successful it was spun out of ''Tiger'' and into its own comic.
