The Mitchell Brothers
The Mitchell Brothers were a Ghanaian British rap duo from London, England. They consisted of cousins Owura "Tony" Nyanin from Manor Park and Kofi "Teddy" Hanson from Stockwell. They were the first signing to Mike Skinner's The Beats imprint and are sometimes known as the "geezers with skills". History Tony Nyanin and Teddy Hanson named themselves The Mitchell Brothers after siblings Phil and Grant Mitchell in the British soap ''EastEnders''. As teenagers, they pressed up 1,000 remix CDs called ''Sorted''. Teddy Hanson spotted Mike Skinner from the Streets in their local Barclay's bank in Brixton, South London, soon after Skinner had released his debut album, ''Original Pirate Material''. Hanson slipped a copy of his and Nyanin's demo CD into Skinner's bag, with his phone number on it. Skinner signed them to The Beats label and produced their first album. ''Dressed for the Occasion'' is the second studio album by English hip hop duo The Mitchell Brothers, released on 19 November 2007. Production comes mostly from The Beats owner and The Streets frontman Mike Skinner. Guests on the album include Calvin Harris, Franz Ferdinand, Ghetto and Plan B. The album was originally set for a July release, but due to creative differences and competition from huge hip hop stars such as 50 Cent and Kanye West, November was "pencilled in". UK Albums Chart
The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data. "Routine Check" is the debut single by British hip hop duo the Mitchell Brothers, featuring Kano and the Streets. It was their highest-charting single, peaking at No. 42 on the UK Singles Chart in March 2005. Theme The song is a defiant response to the perceived racism of the UK Police's " stop and search" policy. In 2012, Tony Mitchell said that the song summed him up as an artist and that the song was about a real situation in that many youngsters had to deal with such police interactions. He said that he wanted people "to like it, for them to like the funny side of it, but understand the seriousness of it as well. At that time with a lot of artists it was cool to be macho, but bringing that wit and humour for me was important." Critical reception Critical reception was mixed. Fit But You Know It
"Fit but You Know It" is a song by English rapper and producer Mike Skinner under the music project the Streets. It was released on 26 April 2004 as the lead single of the Streets' second studio album, ''A Grand Don't Come for Free'' (2004). The song reached number four on the UK Single Charts. Background Skinner told the Daily Star that the lyrics refer to former S Club 7 member Rachel Stevens who was embarking on a solo career at the time the song was recorded. He later denied the song was about Stevens and said that he threw her name out as a red herring to escape the nosey reporter's questions. Critical reception Leonie Cooper of '' NME'' called the "chugging beat" and "the extreme rowdiness of it all" the best parts of the song.
