''The Minutes'' (stylised as ''the minutes'') is the eighth solo studio album by English singer Alison Moyet, released on 3 May 2013 by Cooking Vinyl. It is the first album of new material released since 2007's '' The Turn'', and marked a return to her electronic roots. While creating the album Moyet stated that it was not aimed at the charts, though the album debuted at number five on the UK Albums Chart with first-week sales of 13,536 copies, Moyet's highest-charting studio album since ''Raindancing'' reached number two in 1987. ''The Minutes'' received overwhelmingly positive reviews from music critics, many of whom referred to the album as her "best in decades". Background Moyet announced on BBC Radio 6 Music that her new album with Guy Sigsworth would be released in 2012. Geneviève Alison Jane Ballard ( ; born 18 June 1961) is an English singer noted for her powerful bluesy contralto voice. She came to prominence as half of the duo Yazoo (also known as Yaz), but has since mainly worked as a solo artist. Her worldwide album sales have reached a certified 23 million, with over two million singles sold. All nine of her studio albums and three compilation albums have charted in the top 30 of the UK Albums Chart, with two of them reaching number one. Ken Bruce
Kenneth Robertson Bruce (born 2 February 1951) is a British broadcaster who is best known for hosting his long-running weekday mid-morning show on BBC Radio 2 from 1986 to 1990, and then again since 1992. Early life and career Bruce was born and raised in Glasgow. He attended Hutchesons' Boys' Grammar School, Glasgow, before training as a chartered accountant. Bruce's first job was washing cars. He began his broadcasting career with the Hospital Broadcasting Service in Glasgow. Bruce became a staff announcer for BBC Radio 4 Scotland. Contemporary R&B (or simply R&B) is a popular music genre that combines rhythm and blues with elements of pop, soul, funk, hip hop, and electronic music. Synth-pop
Synth-pop (short for synthesizer pop; also called techno-pop; ) is a subgenre of new wave music that first became prominent in the late 1970s and features the synthesizer as the dominant musical instrument. ''The Changeling'' is a studio album by the English new wave band Toyah, fronted by Toyah Willcox, released in 1982 by Safari Records. The album peaked at number 6 in the UK where it was certified silver for sales exceeding 60,000 copies. It included the Top 40 single "Brave New World". Background The album continued the new wave sound of the band's previous release, ''Anthem'', taking it into a darker, almost gothic direction. Willcox wrote the song lyrics in isolation and the material was recorded at the Roundhouse Recording Studios in the Chalk Farm area of north London in early 1982. The album was produced by Steve Lillywhite using early digital studio recording equipment. Toyah Ann Willcox (born 18 May 1958) is an English musician, actress, and TV presenter.
