The Man Without A Past
''The Man Without a Past'' ( fi, Mies vailla menneisyyttä) is a 2002 Finnish comedy-drama film produced, written, and directed by Aki Kaurismäki. Starring Markku Peltola, Kati Outinen and Juhani Niemelä, it is the second installment in Kaurismäki's ''Finland'' trilogy, the other two films being '' Drifting Clouds'' (1996) and '' Lights in the Dusk'' (2006). The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2002 (the only Finnish film so far) and won the Grand Prix at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival. Plot The film begins with an unnamed man arriving by train to Helsinki. After falling asleep in Kaisaniemi Park, he is mugged and beaten by hoodlums and is left with severe head injuries, losing consciousness. Aki Kaurismäki
Aki Olavi Kaurismäki (; born 4 April 1957) is a Finnish film director and screenwriter. He is best known for the award-winning '' Drifting Clouds'' (1996), ''The Man Without a Past'' (2002), ''Le Havre'' (2011) and ''The Other Side of Hope'' (2017), as well as for the mockumentary ''Leningrad Cowboys Go America'' (1989). He is described as Finland's best-known film director. Career After graduating in media studies from the University of Tampere, Kaurismäki worked as a bricklayer, postman, and dish-washer, long before pursuing his interest in cinema, first as a critic, and later as a screenwriter & director. Sakari Jyrki Kuosmanen (born 6 September 1956) is a Finnish singer and actor, born in Helsinki. He has recorded several solo albums and has also done work with Sleepy Sleepers and Leningrad Cowboys. Rotten Tomatoes is an American review-aggregation website for film and television. The company was launched in August 1998 by three undergraduate students at the University of California, Berkeley: Senh Duong, Patrick Y. Lee, and Stephen Wang. Sputnik 1 (; see § Etymology) was the first artificial Earth satellite. It was launched into an elliptical low Earth orbit by the Soviet Union on 4 October 1957 as part of the Soviet space program. It sent a radio signal back to Earth for three weeks before its three silver-zinc batteries ran out, and continued in orbit for three months until aerodynamic drag caused it to fall back into the atmosphere on 4 January 1958. It was a polished metal sphere in diameter with four external radio antennas to broadcast radio pulses. Its radio signal was easily detectable by amateur radio operators, and the 65° orbital inclination made its flight path cover virtually the entire inhabited Earth. Matti Wuori
Matti Ossian Wuori (July 16, 1945 in Helsinki – October 15, 2005) was a Finnish lawyer, politician, and Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the Green League in 1999–2004. His father died early which left his mother to raise him while running a kiosk. Wuori graduated from the University of Helsinki and became active in cultural and political movements since the late 1960s. He reported annually about the state of international human rights during his term in the European Parliament. Wuori was the chairman of Greenpeace Finland, 1989–1998, and Greenpeace International, 1991–1991. Wuori died after a long battle with cancer. Esko Nikkari
Esko Nikkari (23 November 1938 – 17 December 2006) was a prolific Finnish actor who made more than 70 appearances on film and television. He was born in Lapua, and made his screen debut in 1974 in the movie ''Karvat''. Nikkari was a workhorse of the Kaurismäki brothers, with whom he first worked on ''Rikos ja rangaistus'' in 1983. His last role with Aki Kaurismäki was in ''Man without a Past'' in 2002. He starred in the 1994 film '' Aapo'' opposite actors such as Taisto Reimaluoto, Ulla Koivuranta and Kai Lehtinen.
