The Magician Of Lublin (film)
''The Magician of Lublin'' is a 1979 drama film co-written and directed by Menahem Golan based on '' The Magician of Lublin'' by Isaac Bashevis Singer. The film's title song was performed by Kate Bush. Plot Yasha Mazur (Alan Arkin) is a turn-of-the-20th-century Jewish stage magician, womaniser, con man, and mystic. His great ambition is to figure out how to fly – an ambition he eventually achieves but not as a magic trick. He tours the western reaches of the old Russian Empire. Yasha is married to Esther (Linda Bernstein), but he is rarely home in Lublin to see her and they have not been able to have any children. On the road, however, he has plenty of women as company. Among many others are the zaftig Zeftel (Valerie Perrine) and Yasha's Polish Catholic assistant, Magda (Maia Danziger), who tours and performs with him. Menahem Golan
Menahem Golan ( he, מנחם גולן; May 31, 1929 – August 8, 2014, originally Menachem Globus) was an Israeli film producer, screenwriter, and director. He was best known for co-owning The Cannon Group with his cousin Yoram Globus. Cannon specialized in producing low-to-mid-budget American films, primarily genre films, during the 1980s after Golan and Globus had achieved significant filmmaking success in their native Israel during the 1970s. Lou Jacobi (born Louis Harold Jacobovitch; December 28, 1913October 23, 2009) was a Canadian character actor. Life and early career Jacobi was born Louis Harold Jacobovitch in Toronto, Canada, to Joseph and Fay Jacobovitch. Jacobi began acting as a boy, making his stage debut in 1924 at a Toronto theater, playing a violin prodigy in ''The Rabbi and the Priest.'' Harry Houdini (, born Erik Weisz; March 24, 1874 – October 31, 1926) was a Hungarian-American escape artist, magic man, and stunt performer, noted for his escape acts. His pseudonym is a reference to his spiritual master, French magician Robert-Houdin (1805–1871). He first attracted notice in vaudeville in the United States and then as "Harry 'Handcuff' Houdini" on a tour of Europe, where he challenged police forces to keep him locked up. Zachi Noy ( he, צחי נוי; born 8 July 1953) is an Israeli actor. Early life Noy was born in 1953 in Haifa, Israel. At a young age, Noy did stage work for the local Israeli theater "HaSadna" in Haifa.
