The Last Dymaxion
''The Last Dymaxion: Buckminster Fuller’s Dream Restored'' is a 2012 documentary film directed by Noel Murphy. about Buckminster Fuller's 1933 Dymaxion car as well as Fuller himself. The film features British architect Norman Foster, who called the car "an incredibly beautiful aesthetic object" and rebuilt the fourth Dymaxion car from drawings and study of the first three cars. In the film, noted automobile collector Jay Leno calls Buckminster Fuller a genius. Buckminster Fuller's advocacy for humanity permeates the film. Director Noel Murphy said describing "Buckminster Fuller as a car designer would be like describing Jimi Hendrix as a guitar tech". Fuller was a visionary environmentalist; his lightweight teardrop-shaped car spun on three wheels, held a dozen people and was originally meant to run on alcohol fuel. Noel Murphy (comedian)
Noel Murphy (born July 25, 1961) is an American stand-up comedian and a film director. He managed the New York Comedy Club from a failing venue to one of the top showcase clubs in New York City. He currently lives in California. Short Bio Born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, United States to parents John and Patricia Murphy, Murphy attended Hampshire Country School, Harvard and Second City. Media career Murphy began his stand-up comedy career in the early 80's in Boston at the Ding Ho Comedy Club. His first stage appearance was at Harvard University with Boston Storyteller Brother Blue in 1971. He is the author of the book "How to Talk Funny and Influence People". Dymaxion
Dymaxion is a term coined by architect and inventor Buckminster Fuller and associated with much of his work—prominently his Dymaxion house and Dymaxion car. Dymaxion, a portmanteau of the words ''dynamic'', ''maximum'', and ''tension''; sums up the goal of his study, "maximum gain of advantage from minimal energy input." Description A name was needed for the display of Fuller's first architectural model, later to be known as the Dymaxion house, at the Marshall Field's department store in Chicago. To create the name, wordsmith Waldo Warren was hired by Marshall Field's and spent two days listening to Fuller, getting a feel for his idiosyncratic use of language—later playing with the syllables typical of Fuller's speech until he and Fuller agreed on the word ''Dymaxion''. National Automobile Museum
The National Automobile Museum is a museum in Reno, Nevada. Most of the vehicles displayed are from the collection of William F. Harrah. The museum opened on November 5, 1989. History William F. Harrah collected approximately 1,450 automobiles, which he stored inside warehouses in Sparks, Nevada. It was the world's largest collection of historic automobiles, and was open to the public. When Harrah died in 1978, Holiday Inn acquired his hotel-casino company and the automobile collection. In 1981, Holiday Inn announced that it would sell the entire collection, a decision that received some opposition.
