The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service
is a horror manga series written by Eiji Ōtsuka and drawn by Housui Yamazaki. First published in ''Kadokawa Mystery'', the series later (October 2006) transferred to the companion publication '' Shōnen Ace'', and now published in the magazine ''Young Ace''. As of March 2021, 28 volumes have been published in Japan. An English adaptation is published by Dark Horse Comics. It was first published in individual volumes until volume 14. The english adaptation then entered a long hiatus until the series was rereleased in an omnibus edition format collecting three volumes into a single book, including newly translated material. The series follows five recently graduated university students who have formed a company which specializes in dealing with the dead and their last wishes. Eiji Ōtsuka
is a Japanese social critic, folklorist, media theorist, and novelist. He is currently a professor at International Research Center for Japanese Studies, Kyoto. He graduated from University of Tsukuba with a degree in anthropology, women's folklore, human sacrifice and post-war manga. In addition to his work with manga he is a critic, essayist, and author of several successful non-fiction books on Japanese popular and otaku subcultures. He has written the ''Multiple Personality Detective Psycho'' and ''The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service'' manga series. One of his first animation script works was ''Mahō no Rouge Lipstick'', an adult lolicon Original video animation, OVA. Ōtsuka was the editor for the bishōjo lolicon manga series ''Petit Apple Pie''. ''Mail'' is a Japanese horror manga series written and illustrated by Housui Yamazaki. The English translation is published by Dark Horse Comics. The series centers around , a private eye who investigates cases dealing with ghosts. He uses a broomhandle pistol called and hallowed ammunition to shoot ghosts that may or may not have possessed people and seal them inside the bullets which simply drop to the floor. The bullets are later ritually cleansed at a shrine. The pistol also has the ability to revive the dead by shooting a bullet with a ghost sealed inside into its original body. Akiba does this at the beginning of the third and final volume with the ghost of his childhood friend and she becomes his sidekick. Itako
, also known as or , are blind women who train to become spiritual mediums in Japan. Training involves severe ascetic practices, after which the woman is said to be able to communicate with Japanese Shinto spirits, ''kami'', and the spirits of the dead. ''Itako'' perform rituals tied to communication with the dead and divination. The practice has been on the decline, with only 20 living ''itako'' in Japan, all more than 40 years old.
