The Guarani
''The Guarani: Brazilian Romance'' ( pt, O Guarani: Romance Brasileiro) is a 1857 Brazilian novel written by José de Alencar. It was first serialized in the newspaper ''Diário do Rio de Janeiro'', but due to its enormous success Alencar decided to compile his writing in a volume. A plausible explanation for this success might be in the fact that the novel spoke of freedom and independence, arguing for a nativeness that could be found in tropical nature and in the indigenous people of Brazil. Years later the novel was turned into an opera performed in Italian and called ''Il Guarany'' (1870), by Carlos Gomes, among other places it was presented in Milan and New York (it is a known fact that the author did not appreciate the final result). Goitacá
The Goitacá (or Goytacazes, among other variant spellings "Waytaquazes" "Ouetacá", "Waitaká") were an indigenous people of Brazil. They are now extinct. The Goitacá were a "Tapuia" (i.e. non- Tupi) people, one of the few that still remained on the Tupi-dominated coast. They were said to be taller and lighter-skinned than the Tupi. Their name may stem from ''guatá'', the Tupi word for "wayfarer" or "runner". In the 16th century, the Goitacá inhabited a large stretch of the eastern Brazilian coast, from the São Mateus River to the Paraíba do Sul River, encompassing what is now the state of Espírito Santo and part of Rio de Janeiro state. They are estimated to have numbered 12,000. Unlike their Tupi neighbors, the Goitacá were a hunter-gatherer people. Gedeone Malagola
Gedeone Malagola (São Paulo, July 7th, 1924 - Jundiaí, September 15th, 2008) was a Brazilian comics artist and editor. He started his career in the 1940s, drawing for the newspaper A Marmita. He worked for several comic book publishers until he founded his own, Editora Júpiter. His main works were in the 1960s at GEP (Gráfica Editora Penteado), where he created the superheroes Raio Negro (his best-known character), Hydroman and Homem Lua. In the late 1960s, Malagola wrote unofficial stories of the X-Men for GEP (the publisher had the characters' rights in Brazil, but the licensed stories were not enough for the number of pages of the Brazilian magazine, so they asked their artists to create - without Marvel's authorization - stories to fill the space). Jayme Cortez ( Lisbon, September 8th, 1926 - São Paulo, July 4th, 1987) was a Portuguese-born Brazilian comics artist. He is considered one of the most important artists of Brazilian comics. He was born in Portugal and began his career in the Portuguese magazine ''O Mosquito''. He emigrated to Brazil in 1947, and began working with horror and children's comics. O, or o, is the fifteenth letter and the fourth vowel letter in the Latin alphabet, used in the modern English alphabet, the alphabets of other western European languages and others worldwide. ''Iracema'' (in Portuguese: ''Iracema - A Lenda do Ceará'') is one of the three indigenous novels by José de Alencar. It was first published in 1865. The novel has been adapted into several films. Plot introduction The story revolves around the relationship between the Tabajara indigenous woman Iracema and the Portuguese colonist Martim, who was allied with the Tabajara nation's enemies, the Pitiguaras. Through the novel, Alencar tries to remake the history of the Brazilian colonial state of Ceará, with Moacir, the son of Iracema and Martim, as the first true Brazilian in Ceará. This pure Brazilian is born from the love of the natural, innocence (Iracema), culture and knowledge (Martim), and also represents the mixture (miscegenation) of the native race with the European race to produce a new caboclo race.
