The Fullerton Waterboat House
The Fullerton Waterboat House, originally known as the Water House, is a historic water supply house formerly used to supply fresh water to incoming ships in Singapore. The former Water House was gazetted for conservation in 2002 and has since reopened as a restaurant. History Founding years of modern Singapore, Singapore was established as a trading port in February 1819, Francis James Bernard, the son-in-law to Major William Farquhar, was appointed as the first Master Attendant with an office at the mouth of the Singapore River to control shipping. In April 1820, Captain William Lawrence Flint, the brother-in-law to Sir Stamford Raffles, was appointed as the second Master Attendant. In 1852, the harbour was moved to New Harbour, Singapore, New Harbour (later Keppel Harbour in 1900) and the office had since been demolished. The Downtown Core is the historical and downtown centre of the city-state of Singapore and the main commercial area in Singapore excluding reclaimed lands with many integrated resorts such as the Marina Bay Sands, one of the most expensive buildings in the world, with a luxurious standalone casino at Bayfront Avenue. The Clifford Pier
Clifford Pier was a former pier located beside Collyer Quay at Marina Bay, Singapore, Marina Bay within the Downtown Core of the Central Area, Singapore, Central Area, Singapore. The pier, which opened in 1933, ceased operations in 2006. In 2008 the site was converted into a restaurant, One on the Bund, with Chinese cuisine. This restaurant closed in 2014 and was replaced by another restaurant, The Clifford Pier, which offers a selection of local, Asian, and Western dishes under the operations of the Fullerton Bay Hotel. The Fullerton Hotel Singapore is a five-star luxury hotel located near the mouth of the Singapore River, in the Downtown Core of the Central Area, Singapore. It was originally known as the Fullerton Building, and also as the General Post Office Building. The address is 1 Fullerton Square. The Fullerton Building was named after Robert Fullerton, the first Governor of the Straits Settlements (1826–1829). Commissioned in 1924 as part of the British colony's centennial celebrations, the building was designed as an office building by Major P.H. Keys of Keys & Dowdeswell, a Shanghai firm of architects, which won the project through an architectural design competition. Waterboat House Garden is a small park located near the mouth of the Singapore River, near the Central Business District (CBD) in Singapore. The park was once the original site of the former Merlion Park where the two iconic statues of the Merlion and its miniature form were originally located. History Launch The first Merlion Park was originally located near the mouth of the Singapore River was designed by the Singapore Tourism Board as an emblem of Singapore in 1964. The park was officially opened at an installation ceremony for the Merlion statue, officiated at by then Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr Lee Kuan Yew on 15 September 1972. The original statues of the Merlion and its mininature used to stand at the mouth of the Singapore River with Anderson Bridge as its background. Amoy Street () is a one-way street located within Chinatown, within the Outram district in Singapore. The street is close to Tanjong Pagar MRT station. Amoy Street starts at its junction with Telok Ayer Street and McCallum Street and ends with its junction with Pekin Street, now a pedestrian mall.
